Travis Butte leads as the Milan Indians “chip” away!

A recap of match results over the 2014 Milan Indian Boys Golf season finds that in an opening match against Lawrenceburg, Milan golfers and their scores included Travis Butte, Meet Medalist @ 46, Paul Hawk 47, Jacob Haugh 48 and Eli Schmitt 53. Other tribe golfer scores were Nathan Hand 59, Drew Honnert 60, M. Meyer 66 and Tyler Wilburn 77 resulting in a 194-225 victory over Tigers.

Pictured left, the 2014 Milan Indian golfer Travis Butte is ready for competition and up for the challenge. Butte captured many Medalist honors during his 2014 junior season, including an ORVC Conference title.


A second match victory on the season came with a 176-177 (one stroke) victory over the South Decatur Cougar club. With his round at 37, Indian junior Travis Butte was again the Meet Medalist. Only the top four scores are included for a team score. The tribe’s were Hawk 43, Schmitt 44 and Honnert 52. A third match for the tribe, was hard fought with a 174-176 victory over the over the Southwestern Hanover Rebels as the South Ripley Raiders finished a distant third at 226. At 42, Travis Butte and Paul Hawk fell short of Meet Medalist honors to M. Perry of SwH @ 41. Haugh finished at 44 / Schmitt 46.

South Ripley Raider individual golfer scoring during the match included Joey Waldron 43, Michael Pope 52, Michael Harris 65, D. Sexton 66, Patrick Cole 67 and Bryan McCombs 69.

Ripley County Meet
During the annual Ripley County Meet, the tribe fell short to the Batesville Bulldogs (171) and runner-up Jac-Cen-Del Eagles (176) with the South Ripley Raiders playing to a team score of 238. Individually, Waldron 46, Harris 58, Pope 60, Sexton 74, and Cole 81. Milan’s scoring again found leader Butte a stroke shy at 40 for the Medalist honor, to which Batesville Bulldog Alex Giesting earned his round at 39. Other tribe scores included Hawk 49 with Schmitt and Honnert knotted at 53. Jacob Haugh shot a 55. Bulldog scoring included T. Hatcher 43, D. Schildknecht 44, R. Harmeyer 45, and J. Vogelsang 46. Golfers earning a spot on the 2014 All-Ripley County Boys Golf Team included Bulldog, Alex Giesting, 39; Indians, Travis Butte, 40; Eagles, Lucas Williams, 41; Bulldogs, T. Hatcher, 43 (a tie for fifth at 44); Eagles, Austin Wagner, 44; and Bulldogs, D. Schildknecht, 44.

Season matches continued
The 4-Way match results between Greensburg (168), South Decatur (188), North Decatur (192), and 2nd place finishing Milan (183) found Milan Indian Travis Butte, Meet Co-Medalist @ 41, with Pirate R. Domingo. Other tribe scores were Paul Hawk 42, Schmitt and Honnert 50. The tribe’s participation in the South Decatur Cougar Invitational resulted in a Travis Butte Medalist honor @ 79. Trinity 354, Milan 384, Sw Hanover 389, Crothersville 394, Salem 406, Seymour B. 425, Trinity B. 426, Greenwood C. A. 486. No team score for Oldenburg Academy nor Trinity C with too few golfers. Other tribe member scoring in the Cougar Invite included Haugh 99, Schmitt 102, Honnert 104 and M. Meyer 118.

Tribe caps Trojans
In a dual match against the East Central Trojans, Milan claimed victory 188-193. Travis Butte claimed Meet Medalist with his round @ 37. Other tribe scores included Paul Hawk 48, Drew Honnert 51 and teammates Jacob Haugh and Eli Schmitt stroking for 52.

Three-Way team golfing action at Belterra found Milan the winners with a 169 count, while Sw Hanover finished @ 183 and the Switzerland Co. Pacers @ 227. Jacob Haugh @ 40 earned the Meet Medalist honor. Other Milan finishes included Butte 42, Schmitt 43 and Hawk 44

The Greensburg hosted 3-Way resulted in a Pirate victory @ 156, Milan 172 and the other team 206. An individual effort by Milan Indian Travis Butte earned Meet Medalist honors with his round @ 35. Other tribe scores included Hawk 44, Schmitt 45 and Haugh 48. The tribe claimed the team victory over the Waldron Mohawks, 178-206. Co-Medalist honors @ 40 were shared by Milan Indian Travis Butte and Waldron's L. Maegless. Other tribe scores included Hawk 45, Schmitt 46, Haugh 47 & Honnert 48.

The Rising Sun Shiners captured the top team spot in the annually hosted South Ripley Raider Golf Invite with their score of 164. JCD was second at 175 and Milan third at 181. Jac-Cen-Del Eagle Lucas Williams stroked his way to Meet Medalist honors with an outstanding 37. Individual Indian scoring included Butte 43, Hawk 44, Haugh 46, Honnert 48 and Schmitt 50. Individual JCD Eagle scoring other than Medalist Williams included Mitchell Workman 41, Austin Wagner 45, Evan Borgman 52, and Cameron Horan 58. With just three members, no SR team score was possible. Individually Joey Waldron shot a 46, Michael Pope 57 & Patrick Cole 66. The tribe claimed the team victory over the Union County Patriots, 173-176. Milan Indian Paul Hawk shot one stroke off the Meet Medalist mark with his 41. Other tribe member scores included Butte 42, Honnert 44, Haugh 46 Schmitt 51 and Meyer 61.

The Rising Sun Golf Invitational resulted in a host Shiner victory @ 167, Milan Indians 176 and Switzerland County Pacers 185. South Ripley Raiders had no team score - INC, with no individual scores for them posted. Indian Travis Butte claimed the Meet Medalist honors with his 37 round. Other Indian scores included Paul Hawk 44, Eli Schmitt 47, Drew Honnert 48 and Jacob Haugh 49.

IHSAA Boys Golf Sectional #27 scoring for the Milan Indians resulted in Travis Butte 84, Eli Schmitt 93, Drew Honnert 94, Paul Hawk 95, and Jacob Haugh 111. The tribe finished eighth out of the 13 schools competing at the June 7, Greensburg Country Club hosted event. The JCD Eagles tied for 10th at 388. Eagle Lucas Williams @ 76 advanced as top individual to Regional competition. Other Eagle scores were Mitchell Workman 102, Austin Wagner 104 and @ 106 each Cameron Horan and Evan Borgman.
