Arriest Harrell Terry
Arriest Harrell Terry, 93, of Holton, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2014, at the Ridgeview Health Campus in Lawrenceburg. She was born near Delaware on January 2, 1921, the daughter of Louis and Margaret Plump Anderson. She was married to Wilfred Harrell in 1951 and he preceded her in death on July 17, 1986. She was married to Earl Udey in 1988 and he preceded her in death on October 28, 1999, and she was married to Okla Terry on March 17, 2004 and he preceded her in death in 2012.
Survivors include stepson David Terry and stepdaughter Janice Dougherty, one sister Louise White of Milan, and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her sister Neva Huntington, and her brothers Martin, James, and Robert Anderson.
Mrs. Terry attended the Delaware Elementary School and was a 1938 graduate of Delaware-Jackson High School in Napoleon. She received her bachelor’s degree in education from Ball State University and spent 24 years teaching in the McCordsville, Burney, Napoleon, Cross Plains, Holton, and South Ripley school systems.
She was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Lawrenceburg and a former member of the Holton Christian Church. Arriest was also a member of the Ripley County Historical Society and the Ripley County Retired Teachers.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, August 17 at 3 p.m. at the Holton Christian Church with Bro. Bob McCreary and Mitch Harrell officiating. Burial was in the Holton Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Holton Cemetery, Holton Christian Church, or St. John Lutheran Church in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home, Versailles.
James Louis Connely
James Louis Connely, 62, of Milan, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at King’s Daughters’ Health at Madison. James was born Sunday, September 16, 1951, at Milan, the son of Harold and Altha (Beggs) Connely. He married Mary (Walke) Connely on June 15, 1987, and she survives.
He was a retired employee of Hillenbrand and a member of the Pierceville United Methodist Church where he served as a greeter. He enjoyed working on lawn mowers, computers, gardening, loved people and his two dogs Bootie and Sandy.
James is survived by wife, Mary; son, Travis Connely; daughter, Cassandra Connely; brothers, Phillip (Willodean) and Glenn Connely; and two nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by a niece, Sherry Connely.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 19, at 10 a.m. at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home with Pastor Jack Bible officiating. Burial will follow in New Craven Cemetery at Milan. Aldine M. Sommer
Aldine M. Sommer, 92, of Bear Branch, passed away Sunday, August 17, at Ripley Crossing in Milan. Aldine was born June 20, 1922, in Caesar Creek Township to Robert Vinup and Ida Bushman Vinup.
Aldine attended school at Stony Point for six years before attending Farmers Retreat Public School. In 1941 she graduated from Dillsboro High School. Following graduation she was employed at Seagram’s part-time and helped her parents on the farm. On April 27, 1946 she married Earl Sommer at St. Peter Lutheran Church and to this union two children were born, Barbara and Robert. Aldine and Earl made their home on a farm near Bear Branch where they lived all their life. She was a member of the W.E.L.C.A., sang in the church choir, taught Sunday school, and sang in a trio with her two nieces. She was a life-long member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Bear Branch.
Survivors include daughter, Barbara Bedel (Gary) of Batesville; son, Robert Sommer of Bear Branch; four grandchildren, Jeff Bedel (Carrie), Lisa Bedel (Brian) all of Batesville, Brian Sommer of Bear Branch and Jason Sommer (Andrea) of Indianapolis; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and cousins and many friends.
Funeral services for Aldine will be held Thursday, Aug. 21 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Bear Branch with Pastor Pamela Theide officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery in Bear Branch. Friends may meet her family on Wednesday, Aug. 20, from 4-8 p.m. at DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro. Memorials may be given to St. Peter Lutheran Church Building Fund. DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro is in charge of arrangements.
