Sheldon R. Kroner


Sheldon R. Kroner, Sr., 87, passed away Thursday, August 21, 2014 at his home. He was born Wednesday, July 6, 1927, in Cincinnati, the son of Louis Sr. and Alma (Frey) Kroner. He married Estelle (Windholtz) Kroner on May 29, 1948 and she preceded him in death August 23, 1924. He later married Jean (Sparks) Kroner on November 20, 1993 and she survives.

Sheldon worked as a security officer for the Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati and as a Hamilton County deputy sheriff. Sheldon belonged to the Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Cincinnati, Milan American Legion Post #235, and Moose Lodge in Florida.

He loved selling Christmas trees on his farm and playing Santa Claus, going out to eat and afterwards to karaoke with his wife Jean, and loved to spend time with his family and friends.

Sheldon is survived by wife, Jean Kroner of Cincinnati; sons Sheldon “Buz” Jr. (Maureen) Kroner of San Antonio, Texas, Mario (Terrie) Kroner Hamilton, Ohio, David (Ann) Sparks, Garry (Debby) Sparks of Cincinnati, and John (Terri) Sparks of Burlington, Kentucky; daughters Judy Tipton of Greensburg, Celeste (Adolfo) Manriquez of Osgood, Bernadette (Mark) Lewis of Guilford, Angela (Jaime) Rivera of Osgood, Annette (Doug) McConnell of Osgood; sisters Eileen Weber and Lucille Vehr both of Cincinnati; 31 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by first wife, Estelle Kroner; daughter, Susanne Drake; one brother, Louis “Bud” Kroner Jr.; and grandchild Heath Douglas McConnell in 1985.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 4, at Corpus Christi Church (2014 Springdale Road Cincinnati, Ohio 45231). Burial will be at St. Nicholas Cemetery, Sunman. Visitation will be from 9:30-11 a.m., also on Thursday at the church. Memorials may be made to Margaret Mary Hospice.

Alice Shaw

Alice Shaw, 68, of Dillsboro, formerly of Moores Hill, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2014. Graveside services are being held today, Thursday, Aug. 28 in Nebraska. Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, Shelbyville is in charge of arrangements.

Mildred Louise Ashcraft

Mildred Louise Ashcraft, 88, of Dillsboro, passed away on August 26, 2014 at the Dearborn County Hospital. She was born September 6, 1925, the daughter of Fred and Freda Mathias Meyers in Dearborn County.

Mildred was a graduate of Dillsboro Hish School. She was raised on a farm on Arlington Road in Dillsboro and lived on that road her entire life. On March 14, 1943 she married Floyd Elmer Ashcraft, and they shared a happy life together for 43 years. Mildred had a full-time job caring for their four children and maintaining their home, as well as working part-time for several years at Seagrams in Lawrenceburg. Mildred’s first love was her family. A big portion of her time was spent caring for their needs and attending sporting events and other special occasions in their lives. She was an excellent seamstress and was always happy to fulfill a request from her family for a Halloween costume, wedding gown, stuffed animal or any other need. There was always a summer garden on the farm and Mildred enjoyed preparing delicious meals using the vegetables. She also spent a lot of time canning and freezing for winter use. Mildred loved animals and through the years had numerous cats, dogs, rabbits and even a pony.

Mildred is survived by her four children: Barbara Cook, Joan Hanna (Jim), Tim Ashcraft (Debbie) and Cheryl Neal (Mark); nine grandchildren: Beth Richardson, Tiffany Dunbar, Staci Likens, Darci Surface, Jeremy Savage, Mandy Schneider, Zane White, Holly Hinkle and Jessica Ester; 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Elmer; parents, Fred and Freda Meyers; a brother, Murrell Meyers; son-in-law, Bill Cook; grandson, Troy Kelch, granddaughter, Brenda Barr; and a great-great-grandson, Jace Wade.

Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 29 from 1-4 p.m. at the Dillsboro Methodist Church in Dillsboro, with funeral services immediately following. She will be laid to rest at Oakdale Cemetery in Dillsboro, next to her husband. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church of Dillsboro, The Dearborn County Animal Shelter, or the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements are entrusted to DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro.


Felicia Renee Craig

Felicia Renee Craig, 25, of North Vernon, formerly of Osgood, entered this life on December 30, 1988, in Batesville. She was the loving daughter of Thomas Lou Craig and Teresa Wooten. Her stepmother, Ellen Ann Craig was a very important part of raising and caring for Felicia.

Felicia had attended Jac-Cen-Del High School in Osgood where she had been a member of the FFA and also had been a cheerleader. She most recently had worked for the Hampton Inn in Greensburg. Felicia passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2014, in Greensburg .

Survivors include her father and stepmother Thomas Lou and Ellen Ann Craig of Osgood; mother Teresa Wooten of Jennings County; son, Trenton Wayne Popejoy of North Vernon; sisters Trista (Devin) Scoggins of North Vernon, Julie Holtgrewe of Vevay; brothers: Adam and Daniel Craig of Osgood, Luke (Felecia) Holtgrewe of Middletown, Ohio; grandparents Ollie and Faye Craig of Osgood, Billie Higdon of North Vernon, and Helen Bishop of Moores Hill. She was preceded in death by her grandfathers WM Higdon and Edward Bishop.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 30, at Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood, with visitation from 10 a.m.- 12 p.m. with funeral services immediately following. Burial will be in the Mud Pike Cemetery near Osgood. Memorials may be given to Trenton Popejoy. Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood, is in charge of arrangements. www.nealsfuneralhome.net.
