Ethel Gay Peters


Ethel Gay Peters, 83, of Milan, formerly of Osgood, was born March 2, 1931 at Rushville. She was the daughter of the late Wm. and Jessie Henderson White. She married Wm. Jay Peters March 12, 1949, and he preceded her in death in August of 1991.

Ethel had owned and operated the Osgood Fashion Shop in Osgood from 1956 to 1972. She then went to work as a supervisor for the GTE Telephone Company, which was located in Greensburg, in 1974 and worked there until she retired in 1989. She was a 50-year-plus member of the Ripley County 40 & 8 and also was a member of the Osgood Baptist Church. Ethel passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at Ripley Crossing in Milan.

Survivors include sister Lettie Hicks of Osgood, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Roland White and three sisters, Jennie Schmeltz, Shirley Kemker and Margaret Carpenter.

Funeral services were held Sunday, September 28, at Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood, with burial Greendale Cemetery near Osgood. Memorials may be given to the Osgood Baptist Church. Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood, was in charge of arrangements.


Michael L. Hylton

Michael L. Hylton, 54, of Houston, Texas, passed away Sunday, September 14, 2014. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, October 4, at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan, with burial in the Forect Hill Cemetery in Moores Hill. Carl F. Beeman

Carl F. Beeman, 76, of Butlerville, passed away Saturday, September 27, 2014. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM Wednesday, October 1, at the Nebraska Church of God with Rev. Todd St. John officiating. Interment will be in Union Flat Rock Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Tuesday at Sawyer – Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service and from 11 a.m. until time of the service Wednesday at the church. Gary Lee Hopkins

Gary Lee Hopkins, 50, of Tampa, Florida, passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2014.

Gary was born in Columbus, Indiana and moved to Florida in 2001 from New Orleans, Louisiana. He was a graduate of South Ripley High School in Versailles, where he was a part of the varsity track and basketball teams. Gary was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Kathy Hopkins. He is survived by his two brothers, Ron Hopkins and Randy Hopkins.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Gary to the American Heart Association. Services will be held at a later date in Indiana. Jimmy Dale Gibson

Jimmy Dale Gibson, 65, of Milan passed away Saturday, September 27, 2014. A celebration of Jimmy’s life will be held Saturday, October 4 at 11 a.m. at Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home, Sunman. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.


Asbury “Ace” Sandlin

Asbury “Ace” Sandlin, Jr., 71, of Louisville, Tennessee, passed away Thursday, September 25, 2014 at his home. He was born on April 22, 1943 at Vernon, the son of Asbury and Minta Patton Sandlin.

He is survived by his wife Teresa Brewer Sandlin; daughters, Leslie, Lisa, Rachel and Amanda; grandchildren Daniel, Sophia and Isaac; great-grandson, Trey; brothers, Eugene Sandlin and Paul Sandlin and his father and mother-in-law HC and Ruby Brewer. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Betty and Barbara and his brother Carl.

Mr. Sandlin was a member of the Hillview Baptist Church, founder of the Father’s Touch, and was a realtor for 50 years. He was a 1961 graduate of Vernon High School.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 29 at the Smith Funeral Home in Marysville, Tennessee. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 1 at the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles with Pastor Dale Body of the Butlerville Mennonite Church officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Stratton Karsteter Funeral Home, Versailles.
