JCD loses to Rising Sun in final game of Sectional 2-6

Gary Franklin
SPORTS EDITOR

Earning their way to the final round of the IHSAA Class 1A Boys Baseball Championship game at the Madison Shawe High School hosted Sectional, the JCD Eagles faced none other than the Rising Sun Shiners, who had defeated them already twice during regular season action. Those two losses helped propel the Shiners to the 2015 ORVC Conference title. Along the way, an unexpected upset by the South Ripley Raiders over the Eagles late in the season, totally upset the “apple cart,” not only JCD but Milan as well seeking the title, finally resulting in a tie for second between Milan and JCD.
Rain-outs had set the paths in disarray (i.e. JCD, Milan and Rising Sun) beginning with the first scheduled regular season games early on, which inevitably helped lead to JCD’s demise in the final week of the season.

Weather would again force issues of undesired pitching rotation situations during the final meeting in extended season for sectional advancement, as a poorly timed tournament layout forced the Eagles into back-to-back games being played after their tournament might have already come to a close. Jac-Cen-Del had opened the Sectional with an 11-1 five inning victory over the South Decatur Cougars. Then, in round two JCD defeated Oldenburg Academy Twisters 7-3 in seven innings and on the following night were set to battle the Rising Sun Shiners. The final game mound duties were forced on junior Tyler Huff with Ethan Adams handling the shortstop duties. Around the infield, Keith Simon manned first base, Allen Troy second and Maverick Dwenger third with Catcher Reuben Benham behind the plate. Jac-Cen-Del fielders (left to right) included Chris Stephens, Riley Thomas and Ben Harlemert.
