The Monday night South Ripley Lady Raider hosted, and Milan Lady Indian volleyball games were designated as the Emily Mathes Memorial Scholarship fundraiser site.

A memorial trust was established in honor of the well-liked, young lady, to which a college scholarship amount would be issued to a Milan or South Ripley student seeking further education after high school.

Emily's motto of “everything happens for a reason” has resonated often since her untimely demise; however, her faith, bubbly personality and belief in God touched many lives even at her young age.

Missed by all, this tribute helps many to hang on when times get tough, as Emily would have and did encourage them to do.
The two schools’ volleyball teams wore purple in support of the effort, along with coaches and many fans from both schools.
All the girls led the audience in the singing of The National Anthem as a mark of solidarity.

Following the varsity match, it was announced that the total collected by student fund-raising efforts was in excess of $4,000.
Some may speak on the news of the uncaring youth of today, but Ripley County can thank God that this is not the case here.
We are often cautioned so many times throughout our life to remember that our actions are being watched. We just never know by how many. In Emily’s case, it is obviously evident that her actions left positive influences on many, even at her young age.
