On Friday evening, December 20, Milan Indian Head Basketball Coach Josh Blankinship led his varsity team to a victory over the visiting Gary Moorman coached Oldenburg Academy Twisters by a final count of 65-56.

Varsity action
Quarter One
Despite Indian Kyle Meyers’ control of the opening tip at center court, the Twisters put the first points in the scorebook with a dead-on shot by sophomore sharpshooter Matt Moorman, the obviously continual threat of the lot.

By the game’s conclusion he had hit the mark for 22 points, almost a third of the teams total of 65. Twister junior teammate Matty Hurm added 11.

The Milan Indians countered with strong, double-digit production by seniors Logan Alloway with 16 and Jon Spurlock with 13. With a deficit at 0-5, senior Indian Spurlock hit the ice breaker with his connection on a short jumper; however, a consistant flurry of made shots by Twister Moorman kept them in the lead at the end of quarter one, 14-9.

Quarter Two
Outscoring OA 20-12 in second period action allowed the tribe the opportunity to hang on for the victory after trailing earlier. A steal and breakaway layup by junior Travis Butte knotted the game at 24 and teammate Meyers’ three for four FT shooting allowed them to gain the lead and go to the locker room at the halftime break up by three at 29-26.

Quarter Three
Third period action allowed the tribe to maintain and outscore the Twisters by two, 12-10 in the third, securing a lead at 41-36.

Quarter Four
A hot-handed fourth period resulted in Milan adding 24 to their tally, while the Twisters hit the mark for an additional 20. Whistle stops for unforced traveling, double-dribbling, etc., continually slowed the tribes effort to pull the plug on Twister opportunities to get back into the game until the end.
