Anna Lois Richie


Anna Lois Richie, 97, of Milan, passed away Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at Ross Manor in Dillsboro. Lois was born Tuesday, January 24, 1917 in Emmalina, KY, the daughter of George and Katherine (Combs) Combs. She married Jason Richie October 1938, and he preceded her in death September 6, 1966.

She was a member of the Milan First Baptist Church. Mrs. Richie worked as a librarian, postmaster and as a school teacher where she taught for 32 years, ten of those years being for the Milan school system. She belonged to the Indiana State Teachers Association and Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed knitting, making quilts, and she loved to sing.

She is survived by sons Roy and Richard (Jane) Richie of Milan; daughters Sara (Robert) Hughes of Milan, Virginia Wilson of Lexington, KY; nine grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. Lois was preceded in death by her husband Jason Richie, one son John Richie, two daughters Margaret McAdams and Eleanor Ritter, one grandson Stephen Richie, ten sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 1, at Hope Baptist Church Dillsboro, with Pastor Tom Holt officiating. Burial followed in Craven Cemetery south of Milan. Memorials may be made to cancer fund. Mildred Aikins

Mildred Aikins, 88, of Osgood, passed away Saturday, November 29, 2014, at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. She was born at Rising Sun on May 1, 1926, the daughter of Clinton and Wilma Bailey Peaslee. She was married to Ray Aikins and he preceded her in death on May 14, 1998.

Survivors include two daughters, Sherry (Dave) Weimer of Kalamazoo, Michigan and Nicci (Paul) George of Indianapolis; four grandchildren, Kelly (Jim) Touchtone of Pawpaw, Michigan, Shannon Weimer and her fiance Tim Bailey of Kalamazoo, Emily (Carl) Salzman of Bloomington, and Natalie (Gabriel) Grace of Indianapolis; four great grandchildren; one sister, Lois Colebrook of Cincinnati; one brother, Vern (Debbie) Peaslee and Wilma Peaslee, all of Versailles. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and brothers Virgil Peaslee and Clayton Peaslee.

Mrs. Aikins was a 1943 graduate of Versailles High School. She was employed for 25 years as a secretary for the Osgood Elementary School, retiring in 1989. Mildred was a member of the Osgood United Methodist Church and a former member of Tri-Kappa and the Eastern Star. She enjoyed reading and tending her flowers in her past time.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 3 at 12 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home, Versailles, with Rev. Thomas Beatley of the Osgood United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Tanglewood Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of services. Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice in care of the funeral home.


Lester Holman

Lester Holman, 77, of New Marion, passed away Monday, December 1, 2014, at King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison. Services are pending at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home, Versailles.

James Robert Dunbar

Services are pending for James Robert Dunbar, 94, of Milan, at Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood.

Mary L. Gabbard

Mary L. Gabbard, 88, of Osgood, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2014, at Shady Nook Health Care Center in Lawrenceburg. She was born at Greendale on January 19, 1926, the daughter of Holman and Edna Wilson Steinmetz.

Survivors include one son, Michael (Stephanie) Gabbard of San Diego, CA; three daughters, Vickie (Kenneth) Kasserman of Versailles, Suzanne (Paul) Cox of Orlando, FL, and Debbie Simon of Lawrenceburg; seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Virginia Miller.

Mrs. Gabbard was a 1944 graduate of Lawrenceburg High School. Mary worked for 30 years as a medical aide at the Muscatatuck State Developmental Center at Butlerville, retiring in 1985.

Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family with burial in the Cliff Hill Cemetery at Versailles. Memorials may be given to the Cliff Hill Cemetery in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home, Versailles.
