ORVC boys basketball fans attend annual Jamboree

Coaches, players and fans made their way to the annually held ORVC (Ohio River Valley Conference) Boys Basketball Jamboree on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 22, at hosting Rising Sun High School, to get a first hand look at each others new teams. The seven-member schools quarters of action came in the following order: 1. Hosting Rising Sun vs. Milan Indians; 2. Milan Indians vs. Shawe Hilltoppers; 3. Shawe Hilltoppers vs. South Ripley Raiders; 4. South Ripley Raiders vs. Switzerland Co. Pacers; 5. Switzerland Co. Pacers vs. Jac-Cen-Del Eagles; 6. Jac-Cen-Del Eagles vs. Sw Hanover Rebels; and 7. Sw Hanover Rebels vs. Rising Sun Shiners.

Rising Sun vs. Milan
Shiner action resulted in four points scored by the Armstrong’s, senior Austin 2 and 2 by junior Kurtis. Indians scoring of 7 came from senior Travis Butte with a three-pointer and junior Kyle Meyer’s addition of 4.

Milan vs. Shawe
The Indians action against Shawe resulted in 11 points scored by the Tribe. Senior Allen Laws scored six, along with seniors Travis Butte three and Kyle Meyer two. The Hilltoppers managed to collect 15 for their efforts. Shawe scoring was shared between juniors Brad Koehler seven, Dida Ikongshul six and Patrick Bear with two.

South Ripley vs. Shawe
Raiders defensive action held the Hilltoppers to a single point scored by junior Dida Ikongshul. The Raiders accumulated total was 19. Scoring were senior Chase Samples two, juniors Elijah Roepke five, Ty Tucker four, Kaleb Riley three, Larry Pickett two, and sophomore Cory Walker three.

South Ripley vs. Switzerland County
The Switzerland County Pacers outscored the South Ripley Raiders 15-8 in their quarter of round-ball action. The Raiders accumulated total of 8 came from juniors Elijah Roepke three, Larry Pickett three and Kaleb Riley two. The 15 points scored by SC were by senior Riley Phagan three, juniors Caleb Furnish five, and Dolan Springer two along with sophomores Hunter Hayes and Justin Green two apiece.

Jac-Cen-Del vs. Switzerland County
The JCD Eagles outscored the Switzerland County Pacers 11-4 in their quarter of play. Eagles scoring came from senior Alex Pilz four, juniors Evan Borgman four and Devon Wilson three. The four points scored by the Pacers were off four for four FT shooting by senior Riley Phagan, his final two with just 1.8 seconds showing on the clock.

Jac-Cen-Del vs. Southwestern Hanover
The JCD Eagles outscored the Southwestern Hanover Rebels 14-8 during their quarter of action. Jac-Cen-Del scoring came from senior Alex Pilz with two, juniors Evan Borgman six and Tyler Huff three. Eagles sophomore Reuben Benham’s addition of 3 of 5 from the charity stripe were a result of being fouled on a three-point shot delivery and a pair of simultaneous FT offerings from a technical being called on SwH Coach Jerry Bomholt. The Southwestern Hanover scoring came from senior Tyler Ashby with four, junior Colten Shepherd one and sophomore Tryston Wheatley three with just 1.8 seconds showing on the clock.

Rising Sun vs. Southwestern Hanover
Completing Jamboree action, hosting Rising Sun Shiners played the Southwestern Hanover Rebels to a final count of Shiners 9-8 Rebels. Scoring of the Rising Sun Shiner nine points came from juniors Brady Murray four, Mitchell Morris two, Jake McClellan two and Tyler Camden one. In their attempt to counter the RS Shiners’ scoring, Sw. Hanover Rebel points came from senior Tyler Ashby two and sophomores Alex Ball two, Derrik Bell two and Robbie Stoner two.
