James D. Bowling

James D. Bowling, 56, of Moorefield, passed away Wednesday night, December 3, 2014 of a massive heart attack while coon hunting with his friend and beloved hounds near his residence in Moorefield. He was born November 1, 1958 in Milan.

James is survived by his wife of 32 years, Vonda K. Bowling; his son and daughter-in-law, Jesse and Jordan Bowling, and daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Jason Dameron all of Milan; his four grandchildren; Blaine, Wyatt, Jaden, and Olivia; his brothers and sister; Betty Jo (Gene) Copeland of Breckenridge, Colorado, Rick (Diana) Bowling of Morrow, Ohio, Mike (Barbara) Bowling of French Lick, and Sulvan (Thuy) Bowling, Jr of Farmers Retreat; and his brothers and sisters-in-law; Will Disbro, Greg Disbro, David Disbro, and Tonya Fletcher. James was preceded in death by his parents: Sulvan and Nancy P. Bowling; his nephew Michael Bowling Jr.; and his father and mother-in-law: Bill and Sallie Disbro.

James was a 1977 graduate of South Ripley High School. He was an 18-year veteran of the US Air Force and rose to the rank of Tech Sergeant. He received the Air Force Service Award Ribbon, NCO Professional Education Graduate Ribbon, Air Force Training Ribbon and was certified as an expert marksman and he also was distinguished as one of the top ten recruiters by the Air Force. James was currently the maintenance supervisor and events coordinator for Hanover College and had formerly worked in maintenance at Argosy Casino. He was also the announcer for the American Wrestling Association. James was a member of the Milan American Legion, Milan VFW, American Coon Hunters Association, and the Long Run Baptist Church at Vevay. He lived to entertain his friends and family. He sang and played his guitar to bring joy to all of those around him, he provoked his friends with the occasional prank, he was an incredible performer, singer, writer, and commentator; but most of all, he was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be missed by all who were blessed to know him.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 10 at 10:30 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Casey Banta officiating. Burial will be in the Washington Cemetery at Elrod. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice in care of the funeral home.


Inez “Inee” Rose Meisberger

Inez Rose Meisberger, 66, of Osgood, was born in Milan, on June 6, 1948. She was the loving daughter of the late Silas Edward Meisberger and Pauline Anita Thomas Billman who still survives. Inee married Arnold Black in June of 1980 and he still survives at their home in Osgood.

Arnold and Inee first lived in Cincinnati, Ohio. There she had worked approximately 30 years for University Hospital in office management retiring in 2003. She and Arnold then moved to Osgood. Her family told that she was a wonderful cook. She also enjoyed flowers, gardening, going to garage sales and loved watching basketball. Another interest that her family expressed was she was very knowledgeable and well read on worldly events, especially politics. She loved her family and especially enjoyed being with her nieces, nephews along with her great nieces and nephews! She will be sadly missed. Inee passed away quietly at her home on Wednesday, December 3, 2014.

Survivors include her husband: Arnold Black of Osgood; mother and stepfather: Pauline and Lawrence Billman of Osgood; sisters: Gloria (Tom) Borgman of Osgood, Marcia (Jerry) Volz of Sunman, Maria (Mike) Gribben of Brookville; 11 nieces and nephews; and 21 great-nieces and nephews survive.

Austin G. Brown

Austin G. Brown, 88, of Lawrenceburg, passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2014. Services will be held Saturday, December 13, from 1-3 p.m. at Woodland Hills, 403 Bielby Road Lawrenceburg, IN 47025. Joseph Castner Turner

Joseph Castner Turner, 40, of Osgood, was born September 5, 1974, in Batesville. He was the son of the late Donald Joe and India Carolynn Castner Turner who survives in Osgood. Joe married Holly Lee Ent on October 9, 1999 at the Osgood First Baptist Church and she survives in Osgood.

He had worked approximately 17 years for Bruns-Gutzwiller Inc. of Batesville as a carpenter. During the early years of his employment, he had attended Ivy Tech College where he received an associate degree in business. Joe’s wife stated that they had taken different family trips over their lives but, the favorite trip for them was when they were married and flew to Seattle, WA and drove down the coast. Joe enjoyed camping with his family at various places over the years and Versailles State Park was a favorite spot. He was a very strong Colts fan. Fishing, target shooting and riding four wheelers with his two sons were the very special times that Joe enjoyed. He will be so sadly missed by his family and friends. Joe passed away Sunday, December 7, 2014.

Survivors include his wife, Holly Lee Ent Turner of Osgood; sons, Jack Evan and Jesse Ethan Turner both of Osgood; mother, India Carolynn Castner Turner of Osgood; sisters: Kimberly Dawn (Tom) Sparks of Versailles, and Nancy Bess (Christopher) Solomon of Tybee Island, GA; in-laws, Vickie and Tim Christman of Osgood and Norman and Debbie Ent of Cincinnati, OH.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 10, from 3-8 p.m. at Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood. Funeral services will be Thursday, December 11, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Doors will open at 9 a.m. Burial will be in the Tanglewood Cemetery, Versailles. Memorials may be given to the family. Roberta (Bobbie Jo) Bryant

Roberta (Bobbie Jo) Bryant, 67, of Versailles, passed away Monday, December 8, 2014 at her home. She was born at Brookville on February 5, 1947, the daughter of Earl and Francis Pfaff Hertel. She was married to Andy Bryant on April 10, 1982 and he survives. Other survivors include four daughters, Andrea Carnahan (Kenneth) Smith of Friendship, Angie Carnahan (Tony) Rieger of Portland, Oregon, Carla Carnahan (Joshua) Davis of Dayton, Ohio, and Candy (Mark) Guenther of Liberty; six grandchildren Katie, Sophia, and Robert Guenther, Madelyn Smith, and Natalie and Ryan Rieger; one sister, Michelle “Mickie” Page of Rossville. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Bobbie Jo was a 1965 graduate of Brookville High School and worked for 35 years for the administrative wing of River Valley Resources, retiring earlier this year. She enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren and her hobbies included gardening and reading on the front porch.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 10 from 5-8 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Burial will be in the Akers Friendship Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be given to the King’s Daughters’ Hospice or the Akers Friendship Cemetery in care of the funeral home.


Stephen M. Mathews

Stephen M. Mathews, 58, of Cross Plains, passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at his home. He was born in Cincinnati on December 2, 1956, the son of Donald and Jacqueline Henry Mathews. He was married to Rebecca Slayback on October 5, 2006 and she survives. Other survivors include his father Donald Mathews of Medina, Ohio; two daughters Katie Mathews of Amelia, Ohio and Lesa Mathews of Westchester, Ohio; two stepsons Johnny (Brittany) Wurtzler and Joey Wurtzler both of Harrison, Ohio; six grandchildren; three brothers Kenneth (Cheryl) Mathews of Cross Plains; Douglas (Carol) Mathews of Medina, Ohio, and Timothy Mathews of Columbus, Ohio; one sister Sandra (Danny) Clatterbuck of Madison, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his mother, and his brother David Mathews.

Mr. Mathews was a former driver for M & M Trucking in Madison and was a member of the NMLRA.

A celebration of Steve’s life will be held on Friday, December 12 at 1 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Burial will be in the Indiana Veteran Cemetery at Madison. Visitation will be Friday from 11 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.


Delmer W. “Demo” Bushhorn

Delmer W. “Demo” Bushhorn, 72, of Osgood, passed away Friday, December 5, 2014 at St. Francis Health in Greenwood, IN. Delmer was born Sunday, July 12, 1942 in Milan, the son of Donald and Eleanor (Werbach) Bushhorn.

Delmer married Lydia ( Hunter) Bushhorn on January 14, 1961 and she preceded him in death March 10, 1999.
Delmer is survived by sons: Roger (Maretta) Bushhorn Sr. of West Port, Randy (Stephanie) Bushhorn of Osgood, Ron (Kris) Bushhorn of Milan; daughter: Debbie (Rusty) Litmer of Greensburg; brother: Dennis Bushhorn of West Port; sisters: Elevlyn Hunter, Erma Hunter, Ethel Grigsby, Linda Craig all of Milan; ten grandchildren. Delmer was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Eleanor Bushhorn, and his wife, Lydia Bushhorn.

He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Delaware Fire Department. Delmer worked at Advanced Bearing Metals as a press operator. Delmer enjoyed woodworking, gardening, cutting firewood, farming, and socializing with the public at the local BP station; but his true passion was his family.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 10, at 10 a.m. at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan, with Pastor Harris Long officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery north of Milan. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 9, from 5-7 p.m. also at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Delaware Fire Dept. Velma I. Fry

Velma I. Fry, 88, of Greensburg, passed away Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Decatur County Memorial Hospital. She was born in Decatur County on February 7, 1926, the daughter of Edgar and Telitha (Krone) Meyer. She was married to Robert E. Fry on April 22, 1948 and he preceded her in death on November 27, 1989.

Velma graduated from New Point High School in 1944. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Millhousen, the V.F.W. Auxiliary in Napoleon, and a former member of the St. Ann’s Ladies in Millhousen. Velma was a homemaker.

Velma is survived by two sons: Kenneth (Janice) Fry, Napoleon, Donald (Jeanne) Fry, Greensburg; daughter-in-law: Mary Ann Fry, Greensburg; two sisters: Wanda Meyer, St. Genevieve, MO, Carol (Arthur) Young, Greensburg; six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother: Norman Meyer, sister: Linda Meyer, and son: Wayne Fry.

Visitation will be from 9:30–10 a.m. on Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Millhousen followed by a funeral mass at 10 a.m. with Rev. Bill Turner officiating. Interment will follow at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Millhousen. Memorials can be made to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or to the Millhousen Fire Department. William Albert Schrader

William Albert Schrader, 76, of Batesville, passed away Sunday, December 7, 2014. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 13 at 10 a.m. at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville.
