Dennis “Pete” Holcomb


Dennis “Pete” Holcomb, 80, of Versailles, passed away Monday, December 15, 2014, at his home. He was born near Zenas in Jennings County on October 30, 1934, the son of Walter and Gladys Sporleder Holcomb. He was married to Alta Adams on November 5, 1954 and she survives.

Other survivors include one son, Dennis Jr. “Pete” (Marcia) Holcomb of Versailles; one daughter, Denise (Wendell) Tewmey of Lebanon, Ohio; four grandsons, Chet (Katie) Tewmey of Lebanon, Ohio, Cody Tewmey and companion Laura Haynsworth of Hermosa Beach, California, Derick Holcomb and companion Misty Slayback of Lawrenceburg, and Dane (Kayla) Holcomb of Georgetown, Kentucky; seven great grandchildren; one brother Dean (Lila) Holcomb of Westport. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Holcomb was a 1953 graduate of Holton High School. He was a former employee of the Indiana State Highway, Farm Bureau Co-op in Holton, and Hyatt’s Sawmill in Holton. He had also worked in construction through Laborer’s Union 741 and had driven a bus for the Holton School.

Pete was a former member of the US Trotting Association and had owned and trained standard bred horses. He enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting, gardening, and following IU basketball.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 19 at 11 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Michael Cole officiating. Burial will be in the Marble Corner Cemetery at Versailles. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Marble Corner Cemetery or the donor’s choice in care of the funeral home.


John “Jack” C. Bradshaw

John “Jack” C. Bradshaw, 78, of Indianapolis, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2014. He was born August 18, 1936, in Batesville, to the late John F. and Maudie Huntington Bradshaw.

Jack was a graduate of Osgood High School, and served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He married Gloria J. Furlow and was the vice president/treasurer of Traub Investment Co., Jack was previously employed with City Securities and served on the board of directors for Chatham Walk Condominiums. He was an avid fisherman and golfer, and a member of Maple Creek Country Club. Jack especially loved watching Notre Dame football, IU basketball, the Indianapolis Colts and all forms of auto racing.

Jack is survived by his loving wife, Gloria J. Bradshaw; children, Beth Gregory (Chris) and John M. Bradshaw (Wendy); stepson, Mark Albertson (Lisa); eight grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and dear family friend, Patty O’Brien.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Arrangements are entrusted to Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, Indianapolis. www.shirleybrothers.com.


Michael Collins

Michael Collins, 45, of Rexville, passed away Monday, December 1, 2014, in Florida. He was born in Batesville on January 3, 1969. Survivors include his mother Retha Bishofberger of Rexville; one brother David Wagner of Indianapolis; two sisters Michelle McDonald of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Melissa Smith of London, Kentucky.
Mr. Collins worked as a security guard for a Florida casino. A memorial service will be held on Sat., Dec. 20 at 4 p.m. at the West Fork Baptist Church with Rev. Karen Reynolds officiating. Friends may call the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles for further information.
