Harold H. Huff


Harold H. Huff, 83, of Osgood, passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at his home. He was born near Napoleon on October 18, 1931, the son of Henry and Catherine Pollwine Huff. He was married to Rosella “Susie” Effing on July 10, 1957 and she survives.

Other survivors include one daughter, Sharon (David) Helms of Westport; three sons, Bill (Karen) Huff of Napoleon, Tom (Trina) Huff of Osgood, and Kenny Huff of Hartsville; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; twin brother, Andy Huff of Osgood; brother Bernard (Darlene) Huff of Westport. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Virgil Huff.

Mr. Huff was a 1950 graduate of Napoleon High School. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War where he rose to the rank of Corporal with the 43rd Infantry Regiment. He received the Occupation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Mr. Huff was a farmer and retired in 1992 after 36 years with Bohn Aluminum in Greensburg. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking. Harold was a member of the St. John Catholic Church in Osgood, the Knights of Columbus, Knights of St. John, and the VFW.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Dec. 27, at 10 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church in Osgood with Father Bill Turner officiating. Burial will be in the St. Maurice Cemetery in Napoleon with military graveside rites by the Osgood American Legion. Visitation will be Friday from 4-8 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with rosary services at 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Hospice of South Central Indiana or St. John Catholic Church in care of the funeral home.


Bettejane Balsly

Bettejane Balsly, 91, of Lawrenceburg, passed away Sunday, December 14, 2014 in Holton. She was born Monday, October 29, 1923 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of the late Harry Balsly and the late Margaret Brulard Balsly.

Bettejane was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, S. E. Indiana Art Guild and Saylor Park Ladies Club (member for over 60 years). She was a very talented woman, and she became a draftsman when it was still a predominately male field. She worked at several firms in the Cincinnati area such as ZBA Inc., Cinfab Inc., and A.M. Kinney Inc., to name a few.

Surviving are children, Susan (Torrence) Fleckenstein of Guilford, Linda (John) Gredy of Xenia, OH, Lee (Brenda) Strassell of Holton, Christopher Strassell of Cincinnati, OH; grandchildren, Shawn Noppert, Justin Noppert, Olivia Tew, Grace Noppert, Jonathan Gredy, Amy Harris, Rachel Strassell, Monica Star Perez, Martha Sue Sison, Sarah McConnaughey, Brooke Fleckenstein, Nathaniel Fleckenstein and Jacob Fleckenstein, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral mass services were held at the church with Father Peter Gallagher officiating. Private interment was in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Cleves, OH. Bertha Mae Kiechle

Bertha Mae Kiechle, 88, of Evansville, died Friday, December 19, 2014. Visitation is Saturday, December 27, from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Hubbell’s Corner. Services, will begin at 1 p.m. Burial is immediately following at Evangelical Union Cemetery. Cook Rosenberger Funeral Home, Sunman, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to the National Wildlife Federation, the Environmental Defense Fund, the National Audubon Society or Earth Justice. Amanda Stoltzfus, 3 months old, of Versailles, passed away at Monday, December 22, 2014, at the Stoltzfus residence in Versailles. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay.
