Wilbur Leroy Myers

Wilbur Leroy Myers, 85, of Holton, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 23, 2014, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus.

A memorial service will be held at Holton Christian Church on Saturday, May 31, with condolences from 12-2 p.m. with the service immediately following.

Mr. Myers was a life-long resident of Holton and a long-time member of Holton Christian Church. He enjoyed working in his community and was lovingly known as the “unofficial mayor” of Holton. He was a member of the Ripley County Chamber of Commerce and the Holton Cemetery Board for several years. Mr. Myers proudly served as a member of the U.S. Army from 1954-1956 where he spent most of his time stationed in Germany. He retired from Cummins Engine Company in 1985 after 34 years of employment.

Born July 27, 1928, in Holton, Mr. Myers was the son of the late Harry and Abbie (Lewis) Myers. He married Wilma (Doyle) Vaughn on July 27, 1959 and she survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Vicki (Tom) Wilson of Holton and April (Robert) McCreary of Batesville; son, Steve (Teresa) Vaughn of Holton; grandchildren, Jeff (Aimee) Cornett, Jenna (Cornett) Smith, Kristy (Matt) Werner, Amber Vaughn, Heather (Les) Scott, Bethany Vaughn, Lucas Vaughn, Carlie Vaughn and Anna McCreary; 11 great grandchildren; sisters, Marcella (Myers) Oropesa of State College, PA; Francis Myers of Sun City Center, FL; Thelma (Myers) Wilson of Goshen, OH; Alma (Myers) Julos of Anaheim, CA; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ginny Dunn and Violet Tyler; and two brothers, Albert and Paul Myers.

Memorials may be given to the Holton Christian Church or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
