George Cornett


George Cornett, 87, of Milan, passed away at his home Monday, August 11, 2014, with his family at his side. George was born Tuesday, September 28, 1926, in Viper, Kentucky, the son of John C. and Arizona (Branson) Cornett. He married Hazel (Fuller) Cornett August 16, 1947, and she survives.

George was a Navy WW II veteran, and worked for Seagrams for 40 years. He was a member of the Baptist Church and the Milan F&AM #31 Masonic Lodge. George enjoyed his garden, hunting, and spending time with his family and friends. George is survived by wife of 66 years, Hazel; daughters Maxine Meyers and Beverly (Rodney) Kohlmeier both of Milan, and Kim (Wayne) Gillespie of Lawrenceburg; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; brothers William, Frank, and Herschel Cornett; sisters Loretta Gault and Marlene Wells. He was preceded in death by daughter Kathleen Hoskins, three brothers, and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, August 15, at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan, with Pastor Tom Holt officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Paul Methodist Cemetery south of Sunman, with military rites by Milan American Legion Post #235. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m., Thursday, August 14, at the funeral home. Joyce Kay Clark, 76, of Butlerville, passed away on Monday, August 11, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Sat., August 16, at the Nebraska Church of God in Nebraska. Friends may call at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon, on Fri., August 15, from 4-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in the Otter Creek Cemetery in Nebraska. Memorials may given to Toys for Tots or Jennings County Council on Domestic Violence in care of the funeral home.
