A two-story house was deemed a total loss from a fire Tuesday.

Pictured left, firefighters were on the scene Tuesday for a house fire at 650 North in Osgood.

When firefighters arrived on the scene around noon at 6128 W CR 650 North, there were already flames and heavy smoke coming from the house. Napoleon Asst. Fire Chief Ron Reynolds said no one was injured, but there was significant loss. The owner of the older farm house is Clifford Peetz. His wife was home at the time and called in the fire to dispatch. They were able to get out safely before firefighters arrived.

The state fire marshal investigated Wednesday morning to help determine the cause of the fire. Reynolds said the fire started upstairs. The fire marshall ruled the cause was undetermined but accidental. The firefighters were able to put out the flames within an hour, but remained on the scene until 11 p.m. trying to sort through debris to determine how it got started. Besides Napoleon fire department, Osgood, Delaware, Batesville and Versailles responded. The home has an Osgood address, but it falls under the Napoleon fire department district. The Red Cross was also present.
