Laverne R. Ruggles


Laverne R. Ruggles 92, of Milan, passed away at the Waters of Dillsboro on Saturday, September 20, 2014. Laverne was born Thursday, April 13, 1922 in Milan, the daughter of Earl J. and Cora J. (Gilmore) Miller who later moved to Hogan Hill Rd., near Moores Hill, where she spent her youth.

She graduated from Moores Hill School and married Earl Ruggles of Pierceville in 1941. They met when they car-pooled to work at Schenley in Lawrenceburg. After Pearl Harbor, Earl enlisted in the Army and Laverne continued to work. After the war, Earl and Laverne settled in Milan where he operated a television and radio sales and repair business. She was a homemaker and her hobbies were reading and flower gardening. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Milan.

Earl preceded her in death on March 14, 2013, after 72 years of marriage. She is survived by two daughters, Cora Johnson (Louis Huron) and Karen (Laren) Hunter of Milan; one brother, Elvin Miller; three grandchildren: Cara M. Randall, Kimberly Moore and Timothy Hunter and eight great-grandchildren: Holly Randall, Sarah Randall, Kathleen Randall, Devon Moore, Ava Rose Goins, Chloe Hunter, Clayton Hunter, and Mallory Hunter. She is preceded in death by six siblings: Roy A. Miller, Leona P. Kurry, Roscoe (Bill) Miller, Estal Miller, Clarence L. Miller, and Omer W. Miller.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 23, at Hogan Hill Cemetery, 13298 N. Hogan Road, Aurora, with Rev. Harris Long officiating. Peggy Sue Seals

Peggy Sue Seals, 39, of Versailles, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2014. Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 20 at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville, with burial in the Salem Cemetery, south of Batesville. Memorials may be given to Margaret Mary Hospice. Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville, was in charge of arrangements.

Lillian Hughes Wagner

Lillian Hughes Wagner, 97, of Rochester, Ky., passed away Friday, September 19, 2014 at the Greenview Hospital in Bowling Green, KY. Lillian was born November 21, 1916, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late James and Nordica Perkins Hughes.

Lillian was a retired cafeteria cook at Western and Southern Insurance. She was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church, loved to quilt with Clive’s Quilting Club, a member of the Stamp Club and was a fan of the Cincinnati Reds.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Freeman Hehe and Hollis Jack Wagner; two brothers, five sisters and one grandson Perry Poole. Ms. Wagner is survived by two sons, George Hehe and wife Iris, and Joe Hehe and wife Joanna, all of Saltillo, Tenn.; one daughter, Ellen Poole and husband Neil of Rochester; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 25, at 10 a.m. at DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro with Bro. Charles Russell officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Dale Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Morgantown, KY. Rhonda Fay Cooke, 67, of Milan, formerly of Rising Sun and Aurora, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2014.
