Louis H. Brandt, Jr.

Louis H. Brandt, Jr., 92, of Sunman, passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at Dearborn County Hospital. Louis was born Wednesday, March 22, 1922 in Ripley County the son of Louis Sr. and Eleanor (Bohlke) Brandt.

Louis was a WW II Army Veteran. He was a retired farmer and worked as road grader for 20 years for Ripley County Highway Dept. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Milan American Legion Post #235 and Farm Bureau. Louis loved to drive machinery, farming, mowing grass, going to JayC and Reservation on Tuesday.

Louis is survived by his son John (Nancy) Brandt of Sunman; Jeff (June) Brandt of New Hampshire; three grandchildren, Jeff Jr. (Christina) Brandt, Brandy (Steve) Meyer, Brandon (Rebecca) Brandt; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, two sisters, and one granddaughter Vera Brandt.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 9, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with Pastor Sue Socha officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Milan American Legion Post #235. Memorials may be made in his memory to the Milan American Legion Post #235. Doug Denny


Doug Denny, 58, of Cross Plains, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2014, at his home. He was born in Milan on December 10, 1955, the son of Charles and Phyllis Schwartz Denny.

Survivors include his father and stepmother Charles and Joyce Denny of Cross Plains; two daughters Salina (Joshua) Smith of Chicago and Brittany (Phillip) Woodruff of Jeffersonville; one son Cody (Tasha) Denny of Jeffersonville; five grandchildren; one brother Greg (Jackie) Denny of Cross Plains; his twin sister Donna (Ralph) Stenger of Cross Plains and his sister Beth Laswell of Dupont. He was preceded in death by his mother.

Mr. Denny was a 1974 graduate of South Ripley High School. He was employed as a diesel mechanic with Denny Transport in Jeffersonville.

Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family with the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles in charge of arrangements.


Viola A. Hountz

Viola A. Hountz, 86, of Sunman, passed away Friday, September 5, 2014, at Ripley Crossing in Milan. Born March 18, 1928 in Sunman, she was the daughter of John and Loretta Fritsch Riehle. Viola married Joseph L. Hountz on June 14, 1952 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Sunman and he preceded her in death on July 16, 2014.

Viola worked at Seagram’s and was a homemaker. She was one of 16 children. She enjoyed bingo, quilting, crocheting, puzzles and most of all being with her grandchildren.

Survivors include children, Joyce (Albert, Jr.) Kraus of Batesville, James (Karen) Hountz of Guilford, Joseph (Annette) Hountz of Sunman, Paul (Marilyn) Hountz of Sunman, Betty (George) Hoff of North Carolina, Leroy (Kimberly) Hountz of Sunman, Mary Lou (Dan) Doll of Sunman, and Dorita Hodges of Lawrenceburg; 24 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; siblings, Corletta Weber of Guilford, Nicholas Riehle of Batesville, Romilda Hoeing of Greensburg, and Sylvester Riehle of Sunman.

Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

The Mass of Christian burial, officiated by Father Sean Danda, will begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at St. Peters Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family requests memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. Jack L. Addison, 61, of Moores Hill, passed away Monday September 8, 2014
