Lady Eagles tease visiting Lady Chargers before closing door

Gary Franklin
SPORTS EDITOR

The Tuesday, Dec 15, Jac-Cen-Del Varsity Lady Eagles hosting of the North Decatur Lady Chargers ball game, found some anxious moments for fans of the undefeated home team before JCD put the Chargers lights out with another victory, 58-52. Opening period Lady Eagles action was sketchy, trailing with a deficit of 10 at 8-18, heading to period two. A more familiar looking second period found the Lady Eagles holding a three point edge at 28-25 for the halftime break. By the end of third period action, JCD held a six-point lead at 44-38. That largely a result of senior Lady Eagle Abby Wagner drawing contact before the buzzer on a three point attempt, sending her to the charity stripe where she netted all three. Like butter on a hot knife, the ball slid through the net as she delivered it up, 44-38. During the fourth and final period, JCD gained certain control advancing to double-digit leads before settling for a six point victory at 58-52 over the Lady Chargers at final horn’s sounding. Coach Smith’s Lady Eagles squad continues to take what is given and unselfishly plays team basketball. The Lady Eagles have found that who scores is not as important, as long as someone does, and that everyone else must hustle, play solid defense and work until their number comes up, as inevitably it does.
