Milan Lady Indians extended season hopes dashed,
despite 25 point outing by senior Grace Herzog

The North Decatur Lady Chargers found dominance in their battle against the improving Milan Lady Indians, as they played to a final count of 69-45 by the game’s final horn.

Milan Lady Indian senior Becky “Fred” Hoffrogge (23) drives in the paint for a layup attempt, as North Decatur Lady Chargers slide into position to initiate defensive resistance. However, a little too late, Hoffrogge was awarded a pair of FTs on the assessed ND foul.

First period action found Lady Indian seniors Herzog (5) and Harlie Miller (31) keeping pace with the Chargers, trailing by just one point at 14-15; however hot shooting second period by Chargers led to a 10 point edge, 32-22 Milan, and over the third, ND edged their way to a 15 point advantage at 49-34. Desperation time for sure, but the Indians had overcome such obstacles before, as hope still prevailed for the tribe and their fans. Destiny and lack of calls when needed surged the Chargers advantage to a 24 point, 69-45 difference by game's end, allowing ND to advance to championship contention, while ending the Milan season with a much improved 7-16 record. After shaking hands with their opponents, the five Milan Indians seniors locked hands and exited the floor one last time as a unit.

Proud moment and lifelong memories to share and cherish, of the initiation of the rebuilding of hope for Indians basketball program that had taken a bitter turn in years of late. Senior Indians players under new Head Coach Bob Bressert in his first year as the Milan leader included: 00 Tapanga Gauck, 5 Grace Herzog, 10 Paige Lacey, 23 Becky Hoffrogge and 31 Harlie Miller. The team has a strong underclass unit building and with positivity of this year's program, should attract even a greater desire and determination to be competitive with other teams.
