Charles R. Shorten


Charles R. Shorten, 82, of Marion, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2015. He was born in Milan, to the late Steve and Laura (Combs) Shorten. He married Betty Ann Engel on April 4, 1954 and she survives.

Charles graduated from Milan High School in 1950, and attended Indiana University for a brief time, and in April of 1951, he joined the Air Force, serving 18 months in Tripoli, Africa. He and his wife Betty lived their first year of marriage in Crestview, Florida, where Charlie was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base. They moved to Marion, IN in January 1957, where he began work at General Motors. He retired 1990. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Marion and American Legion in Milan.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; sons, Larry (Sheryl) Shorten, Marion, David Shorten, Indianapolis, and Steve (Sindi) Shorten, Indianapolis; daughter, Linda Wolford, Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Ashley (James) McClenny, Houston, Texas, Brian (Mollie) Shorten, Carmel, Eric (Brooke) Shorten, Marion, and Dominic Solinski Shorten, Indianapolis; great grandchildren, Mason and Mylam Shorten, Carmel; sister, Dot Pettit, Marion, and brother-in-law, Bob Engel, Kalamazoo, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Bradley Wolford, and brother-in-law Ken Engel.

Services for Charles were held Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, Marion, IN, with Pastors Mick Simpkins and Charles Hall officiating. A private burial followed in Grant Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 403 W. 4th St., Marion, IN 46952 or the Grant County Rescue Mission, 423 S. Gallatin St., Marion, IN 46953. Louise White

Louise White, 92, of Milan, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2015 ,at the Ripley Crossing in Milan. Louise was born Saturday, August 12, 1922 at Delaware (Ripley County), the daughter of Ray and Margaret (Plump) Anderson. She married Elvin (Bud) White July 7, 1948 and he preceded her in death October 29, 2013.

Louise was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church where she was in the church choir and a Sunday school teacher. Louise was a homemaker and a teacher for the Rising Sun school system for about seven years. Louise was a member of the Farm Bureau for over 50 years. She loved music, gardening, bird watching, cooking, sewing and spending time with her family.

She is survived by sons: Dennis Ray White of North Vernon, James (wife Missy) White of Cincinnati; daughters: Peggie (husband Virgil) Woliung of Milan, Becky (husband Eric) Hand of Milan; seven grandchildren, Tara Waters, Ashley Hooten, Sara Baldomero, Rachel Hand, Nathan Hand, Maria White, Mathew White; seven great-grandchildren. Louise was preceded in death by husband, Bud White, two sisters: Arriest, Neva; three brothers: James, Martin, Bob.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 7 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church north of Milan with Pastor Sue Socha officiating. Burial followed in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Charles Shelton, 81, of Milan, passed away Friday, March 6, 2015. Services will be at 7 p.m., Thursday, March 12, at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan. A. Bonnie Branch, 86, of Batesville, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2015. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 7 at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville. Burial was Lakeview Cemetery in Cleveland, OH. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Research Hospital for Children. Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville, was in charge of arrangements.

Linda L. Morris


Linda L. Morris, 69, of Milan, passed away Monday, March 9, 2015 at Margaret Mary Health at Batesville. Linda was born Thursday, March 15, 1945 in Milan the daughter of Charles and Mary (Thies) Ashcraft. She married Robert E. Morris June of 1967 and he survives.

Linda was a former employee of Reliance Electric at Madison and Bob Aikens Feed Mill at Pierceville. Linda was a member of the Milan Christian Church and she enjoyed horse back riding, crocheting, sewing, gardening and her dogs Kisha and Tasha

Linda is survived by her husband, Robert, sister-in-law Phyllis White and brother-in-law Claude Morris, several cousins and aunts. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Barbara Ashcraft.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, March 12 at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan with Brother Irvin Hart officiating. Burial will follow in the Rising Sun New Cemetery at Rising Sun. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to either Milan Fire Dept or Rescue 30. Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan, is entrusted with arrangements, 707 S.
