Jessie Jeanette “Jay” Jones


Jessie Jeanette “Jay” Jones, 87, of Bloomington, passed away at IU Health-Bloomington Hospice House on Friday, April 24, 2015. She was born in Monroe County, Indiana on November 30, 1927. Jay was the daughter of the late Jesse A. Jones and Fanny V. (May) Jones.

She retired from US Shoe in Osgood in 1989 and was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Simpson Chapel. Jay was a friendly and good-hearted person, doing whatever she could to help her family, friends, and people in the community. She was a good mother figure treating her nieces and nephews like her own children. Jay enjoyed her pets and liked to travel.

Jay is survived by her sisters, Imogene King and Donna Cowan both of Bloomington and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Winchell “Bud” Jones; sisters, Eva Prather, Betty Craig, and Peggy Baugh.

Funeral services will be held at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville on Wednesday, April 29 at 11 a.m. Burial is to follow at Simpson Chapel Cemetery. Visit chandlerfh.com to visit Jay’s tribute page and share condolences, memories and more with her family.


Richard “Dick” L. Miller

Richard “Dick” L. Miller, 64, of Osgood, entered this life on October 24, 1950 in Richmond. He was the son of the late Calvin H. Miller & Elizabeth “Betty” L. McDonough Johnson.

Dick graduated from Connersville High School and Purdue University graduating in 1973. On June 30, 1973, he was united in marriage to Beverly A. McFarland in Connersville. Dick served as General Manager of the Laughery Valley AG CO-OP from March 1992 to April of 2012. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church. He was a past member of the Osgood Lions Club. Dick quietly and peacefully passed away, with family by his side, Thursday evening, April 23, 2015 at the IU University Hospital in Indianapolis.

Survivors include wife, Beverly A. McFarland Miller of Osgood; sons: Ryan Calvin (Crystal) Miller of Batesville, Bradley Gene (Christina) Miller of Fort Wayne; sisters: Marilyn (Joe) Thompson and Betty (Jeff) Powell both of Connersville; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Carolyn Johnson.

Funeral services will be held all in one day, Saturday, May 2, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Osgood with calling from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and funeral services immediately following. Rev. Gary Wayne Denning

Rev. Gary Wayne Denning, 65, of Madison, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2015. A memorial service was held Sunday, April 26 at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison. Memorials may be given to the Scholarship for the American Baptist Lay Pastors or Youth Refugees from Kenya in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania or the Orphanage for the Blind in Kenya, contribution cards are available at the funeral home. Dale Paul Hornberger

Dale Paul Hornberger, 71, of Sunman, passed away Friday, April 24, 2015. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Adams Lutheran Church, south of Batesville. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Adams Lutheran Church or American Cancer Society. Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville, is in charge of arrangements.

Donald Ray Shockey

Donald Ray Shockey, 86, of Mena, died Sunday, April 12, 2015. A graveside service was held Monday April 27 at Washington Baptist Cemetery in Elrod. Norma J. Hensley

Norma J. Hensley, 74, of Milan, passed away at 11 p.m. Sunday, April 26, 2015 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. She was born in Cincinnati on April 7, 1941, the daughter of James and Christine Martin Crowley. She was married to Francis M. Hensley on March 15, 1963 and he preceded her in death on September 3, 2005.

Survivors include one daughter, Charlotte (Doug) Norman of Milan; daughter-in-law, Barbara Hensley of Milan; six grandchildren; one brother, Jim (Glendon) Crowley of Cincinnati; one sister, Darlene Davidson of Milan. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and her sons Eddie Hensley and David Hensley.

Mrs. Hensley retired in 2000 from Hill-Rom where she worked in furniture assembly. Norma was a member of the Bridge of Hope Worship Center and the Ripley County Gideon Camp Auxiliary.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 30 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bridge of Hope Worship Center with Norma’s son-in-law Pastor Doug Norman officiating. Burial will be in the Craven Cemetery near Milan. Visitation will also be at the Bridge of Hope Worship Center and will be on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Bridge of Hope missions program in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.
