Baylor honored for support of Milan High School sports

Gary Franklin
SPORTS EDITOR

Charlie Baylor, a local farmer and 1973 Milan High School graduate and former Indians athlete, was recently presented an award for his unselfish and positive efforts for his continuing support of the Milan Indians. Baylor was nominated for and selected as the 2015-16 recipient of the Indiana Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (IIAAA) District IV Distinguished Service Award. For many years Baylor has led the attack and tackled the responsibility of laying out and painting the lines and boundaries on the Milan High School football fields for all their home games, and other duties. As a MHS student, Baylor competed in the Milan sports of basketball, football, cross country and track & field. He and wife Vickie have two sons, Dustin and Brandon.

Baylor is known throughout the community for serving in many ways off the field as well, including aiding and directing numerous Ripley County 4-Hers to betterment and project completion ,while serving as the assistant beef leader for the Ripley County 4-H. Baylor served as a Milan Park Board member and a member of the Milan Jaycees, as well as supporting other deserving local clubs and organizations. We are proud to join the IIAAA in their honoring Charlie on his contributions with athletics and appreciatively recognize his many other services rendered.

Insight on IIAAA Distinguished Service Award
The Indiana Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (IIAAA) has an annual banquet in which they honor individuals for work with their local school corporation. Each IIAAA district nominates and votes on their winner at a fall meeting. The IIAAA Distinguished Service Award is given to individuals outside the field of athletic administration but contribute mightily to their local school corporation. Other district winners this year included a Purdue employee who researched and created record books for Tippecanoe schools, a sportscaster from South Bend, a gentlemen who has worked high school football games since 1972 for his school, and a business teacher who helps schools develop and maintain their website. In the past, other winners have been team doctors, officials, volunteers, and others who have helped their local school for many years. Almost every school in the state has a person who gives of themselves for the sake of the kids. The IIAAA feels it is important to honor a few each year. High school athletic departments could not be run successfully without these individuals. Visit the IIAAA.org website for more names of DSA winners from past years.
