Jail fight leads to more charges for inmates
Four Ripley County inmates are facing various charges after getting in a fight apparently over an unpaid gambling debt in the jail on April 15. According to the probable cause affidavit, Jail Commander Bob Curl reviewed the jail surveillance cameras to determine what happened. From this he reported that Noah Davidson was lying on a bunk in the cell while Jon Werner, Dusty Owens, David B. Collins and Brandon Jacobs moved down the hall from a dayroom gathering to Davidson’s bunk. Perking up Pangburn Park

Friends and neighbors of Pangburn Park gathered together last Saturday at the Tanglewood Road location where thousands of Versailles residents have played for decades. The group was joined by volunteers to make improvements to the local ball field, playground, and adjoining area. Roxanne Meyer and Susan Westmeyer spearheaded the cleanup day where the group planted bushes and flowers, spread mulch, hauled dirt and sowed grass.

Cleaning up Pangburn ParkSANDY DAY HOWARD
Several Versailles residents showed up Saturday to mulch, plant grass seed and haul dirt among other things to clean up Pangburn Park.

The adult volunteers were particularly impressed by two young boys who live nearby. The boys, regular visitors to the playground, noticed the workers early Saturday morning and wanted to help. They ran home and got permission and then ran back where they helped spread mulch, clean up, and plant all in an effort to do their part for the playground they love. Following a damp, chilly morning of landscaping and cleaning, State Representative Randy Frye appeared at the area, donating a flag that was flown over the Indiana Statehouse last September. “It has been years since the American flag has waved on the flagpole at Pangburn Park!” said Meyer.

“We are so grateful for the time our friends and neighbors gave volunteering with us on Saturday,” stated Westmeyer. “With donations from local sponsors and other generous donors we were able to work together to clean up the park.”

Plans for future improvements to the park include installation of a historical marker and hand painted “Pangburn Park” sign, basketball court sealing and design, painting the building’s doors, windows and trim, and continued sowing of grass seed and mulching around the perimeters of both playground areas. The group has a “GoFundMe” page where they’ve raised money toward improvements and maintenance at Pangburn. Anyone interested in making a donation for future improvements can send them to: Main Street Versailles-Pangburn Park, PO Box 436, Versailles, IN 47042.
