Gregory Alan Jones

Let us pause to honor the memory of Gregory Alan Jones, age 49, of Madison, who entered this life on October 31, 1966, in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, the son of Ronald E. Jones and Barbara Wilson Jones Cooke. Greg died on Saturday, June 11, 2016 in Madison, Indiana.

He was a 1984 graduate of South Ripley High School and later enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was formerly employed with the lumber mill in Edinburgh, and the City of Madison Water Department where he underwent training for potable water testing and wastewater management. He worked on construction projects with B.C. Cooke and was employed with Tower Manufacturing. He began a career with American Commercial Lines as a deckhand working his way to the position of safety instructor, and later worked for Watco as a barge crewman. He was currently employed with Madison Tool and Die as a machine operator.

Greg loved riding his motorcycle and cruising back roads in his spare time, camping with family and friends, spending time on the Ohio River, scuba diving with his mother and brother, attending music concerts — he was a fan of bands from Journey to Foreigner — cheering on the Cincinnati Bengals, and most important to Greg, was spending time with his beloved daughters and granddaughter. He also enjoyed volunteering at the Jefferson County Animal Shelter, Salvation Army and the food pantry.

Greg will be missed by his loving daughters: Brittany Jones of North Vernon and Cassandra Jones and her companion Brandon Bowling of North Vernon; his beloved granddaughter, Emilee Franks and her father, Devin Franks; his loving mother and stepfather, Barbara and J. Robert Cooke of Madison; his loving father and stepmother: Ronald E. and Jackie Jones of Friendship; his loving brother Rick Jones and his wife, Buu Dinh of Seattle, Wash.; his companion: Jennifer Rickenbaugh of Madison; his loving aunts and uncles: Leonard, Jim and Don Jones; Marilyn Wilson and Joe Wilson and his wife, Linda; his cousins: Tim, Doug, Rex, Nicole, Todd, John, Brian, Linda, Jimmy, Jeff, Andrea, and Jason; several step-aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Jim and Irene Wilson and Viola and Lawrence Jones; his step-grandparents John R. and Elizabeth “Betty” Munier Cooke; his aunts and uncles: Paul David Jones, Jim Wilson, Bobbi and Ralph Hurelbrink, and Harold and Bea Stegemoller, and his cousin, Lisa Jones.

Friends may call Friday from 4 p.m., until the time of service at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, June 17, 2016, at 6 p.m., by Father John Finke at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive Madison. Private interment will follow at a later date.
