John Pearl Little

John Pearl Little passed away at Ripley Crossing Rehabilitation Center on Friday, August 12, 2016. John was born on December 12, 1924 in Hamilton, Ohio to his father, Pearl Little and mother, Elizabeth Little.

He graduated from Hamilton High School before serving in the Army (36 Calvary) as a Sergeant/Tank Commander in the European Theatre from 1942 to 1945. There, John received a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. John worked at Champion Paper from 1945 to 1947. He then began a career with General Motors at the Fisher Body Plant in Hamilton, Ohio in 1947 as a Tool and Die trainee. He finished out his career with General Motors by being promoted to Superintendent of Manufacturing in 1977 were he retained that position until he retired in 1980 with 33 years of continuous service. John served as the Captain of the Sheriff’s Mount Patrol (Butler County, Ohio) from 1968 to 1973. He went on to be a Bank Director at the Versailles Bank from 1975 to 1980 and moved on to the title of County Commissioner of District 3 for multiple terms. During John’s life he was a proud and devoted member of the Masonic Lodge in Hamilton Ohio, Scottish Rite of Cincinnati, Ohio and also the Shriners. He was also a member of the NRA.

John was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Little in 1943; son, Thomas Wayne Little in 1973; father, Pearl Little in 1974; wife, Jackie Little in 1998; and son, John Stephen Little in 2011. He is survived by his wife, Marian Little; sister, Gerrie Jones; son, Joe Little; granddaughter, Heather Ball; great grandchildren, Brandon Ball, Bailey Ball, Abby Ball; and nine step-children and their children. John also leaves behind many friends and acquaintances from Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Florida.

Funeral Services were held Tuesday, August 16 at the Webb Noonan Kidd Funeral Home, Hamilton, Ohio, with Pastor Mike Botts officiating. Interment followed in Rose Hill Burial Park. Leona Huber

Leona Huber, 89, of North Vernon, passed away Monday, August 15, 2016. Private Services will be held at a later date. Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon were entrusted with the care of the arrangements. Esther Heidorn


Esther Heidorn, 83, of Milan, passed away at 3:35 a.m. Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. She was born near Pierceville on November 23, 1933, the daughter of Lester and Mabel Dilla Plump. She was married to Floyd Heidorn on December 16, 1951 and he preceded her in death on October 5, 1998.

Survivors include three daughters, Lois Jones of Dry Ridge, Kentucky, Mary (Leroy) Vanosdol of Benham, and Kathy (Andrew) Neubauer of Cincinnati; one granddaughter, Sarah Jones of Dry Ridge; three step grandchildren, Stephanie Neubauer of Cincinnati, Lisa (Bryan) Schlotman of Holton, and Cathy Wise of Dillsboro; four step great grandchildren; one sister, Virginia Schwing of Palatka, Florida; one brother, Bobby (Jenine) Plump of Indianapolis. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her sister Dorthea Sullender, brothers Lester Plump and Wallace (Bill) Plump, and her stepgrandson AJ Neubauer.

Mrs. Heidorn was a 1951 graduate of Milan High School. She was a former employee of the Milan Super-Valu and also taught nutrition classes for the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Services. Esther was a 70-year member of the Pierceville United Methodist Church and was former leader for the Pierceville Haypals 4-H club. She also served as a volunteer for the Milan Food Bank. In her spare time Esther enjoyed reading and doing word search puzzles.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 20 at 10:30 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor Jack Bible and Rev. Harris Long officiating. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles. Visitation will be on Friday from 5-8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Pierceville United Methodist Church or the Cliff Hill Cemetery in care of the funeral home.


Mary Lou Kirby


Mary Lou Kirby, 74, of Pierceville, passed away Sunday, August 14, 2016 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. Mary Lou was born Monday, September 1, 1941 in Osgood, the daughter of Ira and Evelyn (May) Kirby.

Mary Lou was a homemaker. She attended the church service at Ripley Crossing with Pastor Charlie Miller. She enjoyed arts and crafts, playing bingo, collecting vintage dolls and spending time with her family.

Mary Lou is survived by brothers: Robert (Vicki) Kirby of Greensburg, Ira K. (Georgia) Kirby of Tulsa, OK and James K. (Edith) Kirby of Wagner, OK; sisters: Rita (John) Ellis of Cleveland, OH, Bessie Kirby of Pierceville and Beverly (Leonard) Kash of Milan. She was preceded in death by her parents: Ira and Evelyn Kirby; one brother: William (Buck) Kirby; and one sister: Dorothy Caplinger.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home with Pastor Charles Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Craven Cemetery south of Milan. Visitation will be 9-11 a.m., Thursday at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the Heart Association through the funeral home.
