Girls varsity opener
The 2017 girls varsity first round competition began on Tuesday evening January 3 at Milan High School, where the opening game found Coach Brian Samples led South Ripley Lady Raiders in action against Coach Scott Smith’s Jac-Cen-Del Lady Eagles. Anticipation of victory was apparent by both squads, as the Lady Raiders had drawn first blood in their season opening four point overtime win at SRHS.

A desire by Coach Brian Samples and his Lady Raiders to make it happen again was definitely in the SR plan; however, Coach Smith and his Lady Eagles lot had a whole different perspective on what the outcome would be in this second meeting of the two rivals this season. Revenge via their 10-point victory over South Ripley propelled the Lady Eagles into the RCT Championship game, where it would later be determined that they would meet Coach Darrick Cox’s Batesville Lady Bulldogs. A 22-point outing by JCD Lady Eagle junior Lilly Simon (22) helped spur her team to the 10-point, 49-39 victory at the final horn’s sounding.
Opening night second game action
Opening night second game action found Coach Darrick Cox led Batesville Lady Bulldogs against Coach Bob Bressert led Milan Lady Indians with Batesville playing to the 66-40 victory. A 30 point outing by Batesville Lady Bulldog junior Gabi Garcia (3) spurred her team to the 26 point, 66-40 victory over hosting the Milan Lady Indians.
Varsity consolation
South Ripley vs. Milan
The Friday, Jan. 6, RCT Girls Varsity Consolation 6 p.m. game action between the hosting Milan Lady Indians and South Ripley Lady Raiders resulted in a Lady Raider victory, 66-35.
2017 RCT varsity girls championship
JCD vs. Batesville
The Friday, January 6, Ripley County Tourney Girls Varsity Championship between the South Ripley Lady Raiders and Batesville Lady Bulldogs resulted in a JCD repeat victory, 61-50.
