Chester R. Baylor


Chester R. Baylor, 97, of Milan, passed away Tuesday evening, January 24, 2017 at his residence. Chester was born Thursday, September 25, 1919 in Milan, the son of Charles and Anna (Buchold) Baylor.

Chester was drafted as part of the first troop from Indiana in 1941 to serve our country in WWII. After serving in the US Army in the South Pacific, Chester returned to Milan and married Ruth Hamilton on December 20, 1945. Chester Baylor is the founder of Baylor Trucking, Inc. He expanded the family business after the war hauling furniture from the Milan Furniture Factory. Chester and wife Ruth developed the company with an entrepreneurial spirit and hard work hauling freight throughout the Midwest and to the East Coast.

Chester was a proud member of the Milan American Legion Post #235, the Milan United Methodist Church, Milan Masonic Lodge F&AM #31, and the Southeastern Indiana Shrine Club of the Murat Temple. He enjoyed being active in the community; supporting local activities, dancing at the Legion, golfing with friends, driving a semi-truck in parades and creating the Chester and Ruth Baylor Scholarship Fund, which is now the Dollars for Scholars.
Chester was preceded in death by his wife Ruth and his son, Robert (Bob) Baylor. Surviving are his daughter, Bonnie Baylor Hammond of Cincinnati, OH, son Steve (Judy) Baylor of Milan, and daughter-in-law, Beth Baylor of Lawrenceburg. Chester was blessed with six grandchildren: Cari Baylor, Ben (Suzy) Hammond, Kelly (Bill) Shelton, Katie (Dan) Petrossi, Jenny (Chris) Swisher, and Adam Baylor. He often smiled in adoration at his eight great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Saturday January 28 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Milan United Methodist Church, 306 S. Main St, Milan, In. 47031. Funeral services will be held at the church immediately following the visitation with Rev. Pamela Wooden officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery north of Milan following the services. Full military rites will be provided by the Milan American Legion Post 235. Memorial contributions may be given in his name to the Milan American Legion Post 235, PO Box 247, Milan, In 47031 or the Milan United Methodist Church, PO Box 305, Milan, In. Michele Hountz


Michele Hountz, 52, of Dillsboro, passed away Monday, January 23, 2017 at the Arbor Grove in Greensburg. She was born in Cincinnati on January 30,1964, the daughter of Frank and Shelly Goodins Evans.

Survivors include two daughters, Megan (Josh) Murafski, of Elizabethtown, Ohio and Makyla Hountz of Dillsboro and Michele’s fiancé Denny Bushhorn of Napoleon; one grandchild, Maddox Murafski; three brothers, Mark (Laura) Evans of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Jeff (Christy) Evans of Dillsboro and Brian (Melanie) Evans of Versailles. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Hountz was a caretaker and attending Strayer University for Social Work. Michele loved to be with her family, girls and taking care of her dogs.
Memorial services for Michele will be held on Monday, January 30 at 7 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with William Fugate officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Ripley County Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
