Elizabeth Ellen (Freeman) Sailing

Elizabeth Ellen (Freeman) Sailing, 79, of Horse Shoe, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at Elizabeth House (Hospice) on October 29, 2017.
She was born in Pierceville, Indiana on February 16, 1938 on her parent’s dairy farm. She was a graduate of Milan High School. She worked as a secretary at U.S. Shoe in Cincinnati, Ohio and, after a break to raise her daughter, for Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. After residing for 28 years in West Bloomfield, Michigan, she retired to North Carolina, along with her husband, approximately 19 years ago. She is survived by her daughter, Roberta; and her brother, Lloyd Freeman. Preceding her in death were her beloved husband of 51 years, Russel; and her parents, Edwin and Geneva Freeman of Pierceville.

She was a life-long volunteer for many good causes including being an elementary school reading tutor, Brownie troop leader, hospital and church volunteer. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Hendersonville, North Carolina and United Methodist Women. She was an avid traveler throughout the U.S. and to over 34 foreign countries.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, November 3 at Mud Pike Cemetery in Osgood. Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Memorial gifts may be made in her name to Elizabeth House (Hospice), 501 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, North Carolina 28731. John Charles Smith

John Charles Smith, 65, of Greensburg, formerly of Versailles, passed away Monday, October 30, 2017 at his son’s home in Bloomington. He was born in Batesville on October 14, 1952, the son of Robert and Esther Ann Wilson Smith.

His survivors include his parents Bob and Esther of Versailles; one son Mark (Christine) of Bloomington; one daughter April Hall of Bloomington; four grandchildren Drew, Morgan, Parker and Riley; three brothers Lloyd Smith and Randy Smith, both of Versailles, Eddie Smith of Cross Plains; one sister Dianne Harding of North Vernon. He was also preceded in death by his sister Melinda Thompson and a niece Jennifer Smith.

Mr. Smith was an Army Vietnam Veteran and a Machinist for many factories in the Greensburg area. John was a member of the American Legion Post 129 of Greensburg. John’s wishes were to be cremated and his burial will be Wednesday, November 8 at 1 p.m. at The Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1415 North Gate Road, Madison with full military Honors. Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home, Versailles.


Christopher Michael Krause

Christopher Michael Krause, 24, of Holton, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at his family farm. He was born in Madison on June 27, 1993, the son of Chris and Lisa Rauch Krause.

Survivors include his father, Chris Krause of Holton; his mother, Lisa Krause of Cincinnati; two half sisters; Shayne (Jason) Meister Krall of Loveland, Ohio and Jocelyn (Shawn) Meister Key of Blue Ash, Ohio; maternal grandmother Margaret Spencer; six nieces and nephews, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was also preceded in death by paternal grandparents Dr. Raymond and Dorothy Ann Krause and maternal grandfather James Rauch.
Michael was a 2012 graduate of South Ripley High School and was employed with the Muscatatuck Urban Training Center at Butlerville as a Steam Plant Fire Tender.

Funeral services were held on Monday, October 30 at 12 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Mark Kessen officiating. Burial was in the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles. Memorials may be given to the Holton Volunteer Fire Department or to the donor’s choice in care of the funeral home.


Maxine Norman

Maxine Norman, 92, of Milan, passed away Monday, October 30, 2017. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017 at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan. Burial will follow at Craven Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, Nov. 4 from 4-6 p.m. also at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to donor’s choice. Lloyd Asche, 77, of Batesville, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2017. Funeral services will be at the convenience of the family.
