Elaine Ruby Bergman

Elaine Ruby Bergman, age 8,4 of Batesville, passed away Monday, December 11, 2017 at Ripley Crossing. The daughter of Irvin and Ruby (Nickell) Berg was born on April 18, 1933 in Richmond. She was a 1951 graduate of Sunman High School.

Elaine and her husband, Raymond enjoyed life living on their farm. In 2006, they moved into the Chateau in Batesville. Together, they owned and operated Bergman’s Store in Pierceville, IN for many years. She also worked as the postmaster in Pierceville. Elaine was a member of the St. Peters United Church of Christ (Finks) in Osgood, for more than 55 years. She read her Bible daily and had a strong faith in God.

She is survived by her daughters, Renee (Michael) Ramig of Milan, and Raynell (David) Smith of St. Mary’s; grandchildren Joshua (Kristy) Ludeker and Danny (Erica) Smith; great grandchildren Olivia, Aiden, Alexis Ludeker, Avery Smith and Azelea Phillips; along with her sister Barbara (Ken) Kruse of Batesville. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Bergman in 2008, grandchild Jeremiah Ludeker and sister, Betty Wiedeman.

Visitation will be Saturday, December 16 from 11 a.m. until time of funeral services at 1 p.m. all at St. Peters United Church of Christ (Finks) in Osgood. Rev. Sandy Gruell officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peters UCC Cemetery. Memorials may be given to St. Peters UCC c/o the funeral home. Online condolences www.meyersfuneralhomes.com.


Loretta Marie “Rita” DeVries


Loretta Marie “Rita” DeVries, 75, of Bloomington, passed away on Monday, December 11, 2017. Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 13 at Deremiah-Frye Mortuary Greene & Harrell Chapel. Interment followed at Garrison Chapel Cemetery. Eva M. Ficklin

Eva M. Ficklin, 70, of East Enterprise, passed away at 5:45 a.m., Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at her home. She was born at Madison on September 5, 1947, the daughter of Chester and Flora Angel Sproessig. She was married to Donald Ficklin on August 21, 1965 and he preceded her in death on October 9, 2016.

Survivors include three sons, Tim (Carrie) Ficklin of East Enterprise, Jeff Ficklin of Madison, and Robert Ficklin of Hanover; four grandchildren Dustin Whiteford, Katelynne Whiteford, Taylor Ficklin, and Sophia Ficklin; one great grandson Dallas Whiteford; also her sister-in-law Patricia Sproessig of Versailles. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brother Richard Sproessig.

Mrs. Ficklin was a 1965 graduate of Holton High School. She was a former employee of Conn Organ in Greensburg, US Shoe in Osgood, and retired from the Gecom Corporation in Greensburg. Eva was a member of the Holton United Methodist Church and attended the Bible Baptist Church in Greendale. Her children, grandchildren, and her faith were her mainstays in life.

Funeral services for Eva were held on Friday, December 8 at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor Joseph S. Hart of the Bible Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in the Grandview Memorial Garden at Madison. Memorials may be given to the Holton United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.


Candace Jean Francis

Candace Jean Francis, 61, of Elizabethtown, passed away Monday, December 11, 2017. The funeral will be conducted at noon Friday, December 15, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, Columbus. Calling will be from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery, Columbus. Memorials may be made to the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home to help with final expenses.
