Gary Franklin
SPORTS EDITOR

The Jac-Cen-Del Lady Eagles Softball Team again follows the lead of Head Coach Jake Todd, but this year in new uniforms. Last year’s Lady Eagles JV Team Coach Josie Goldsberry stepped aside for motherhood duties resulting in the hiring of Coach Stevie Sciutto to take over the team.Coach Todd’s wife, formerly the Head Coach of South Ripley’s varsity, now helps her father with Jennings County High School, rendering the husband - wife JCD/SR battle. The JCD Lady Eagles varsity opened their season at home against the visiting Batesville Lady Bulldogs on April 4, where they suffered a tough 1-3 loss after allowing but 1hit and an error to the visitors.

Slated on the road JCD Lady Eagles varsity action of Saturday, April 8, against the Franklin County Lady Wildcats was halted due to weather conditions in the area. The slated April 10 match up between the Lady Eagles and the Madison Shawe Lady Hilltoppers was stopped due to too many ill Lady Hilltoppers for them to field a team. On April 12, the South Ripley Lady Raiders trekked to JCDHS to battle their rival Lady Eagle opponents; however, with all the Lady Raider upperclassmen converting to Track & Field this spring, and a new coach in Coach Smith heading up the SR charge, the team may face a rough road in 2017. Lady Eagles domination became the key word as SR could generate no scoring against the Lady Eagles defense, eventually in the bottom of the sixth inning, falling by an 0-10 loss to JCD.
