Margaret Mary Health breaks ground in Milan

The excitement grows in Milan as crews are working on various projects and people are wondering what is going on. They can wonder no more about the property near the intersection of SR350 and SR 101. It is going to be a physician office affiliated with Margaret Mary Health, Batesville. Just last week they broke ground on the new facility that is under construction by the Poole Group, Inc. and is expected to be opened as soon as June, according to officials from Margaret Mary Health.

The medical office will provide primary care services for area residents under the care of Dr. Amy Glaser-Carpenter. Some may remember her father, who was a doctor at the Batesville hospital facility. According to information from Margaret Mary Health, many local organizations played a role in developing the project. Partners in the project include Holt Properties, Inc., Poole Group, Inc. and the Napoleon State Bank.
“We are honored to have Margaret Mary Health, an organization with a history of giving to the communities it serves, as our tenant in the new building,” noted Lori Holt, of Holt Properties, Inc.
She continued, “The opportunity to expand the services offered in Milan and contribute to our hometown, a town we love, just felt like a great thing to do. We want Milan to be a community where people want to live and raise their families, a place to come back to. We are excited to welcome a new doctor to our community.”
“Margaret Mary has been working diligently over the past several years to improve access to care for local families. We realize the most effective way to do this is to bring quality health care providers as close to home as possible,” noted Julie Keene, MMH’s vice president of physician services. She further stated, “Milan is a great community within our service area and we are excited to open a new practice here.”
Margaret Mary Health now has three primary care facilities including the one in Osgood and Batesville. The day of the groundbreaking, Tim Putnam, MMH president and CEO, said they are “here for the long term”. We are committed to being in this community. Residents in Milan are excited to see the building go up and feel it will be an asset to the town and perhaps the “shot in the arm” (no pun intended) to boost the town.
Vaccinate your pets against rabies
Rabies is a deadly disease caused by a virus that attacks the nervous system. Rabies is most often found among wild animals such as bats, raccoons, skunks, and foxes. Dogs, cats, horses, and livestock can also get rabies if they are not vaccinated.
People will usually become exposed to the rabies virus when an infected animal bites them. In recent years across the United States two to three people die of rabies each year. Unfortunately, in Indiana two people have died of rabies since 2006. If bitten by a wild animal or domestic animal, wash wounds thoroughly with soap and water and seek medical attention right away.
Wild or domestic animals can be tested for rabies by submitting brain tissue to the Indiana Rabies Lab in Indianapolis. Doctors, veterinarians and public health officials are instrumental in managing cases of potential human exposure to rabies. They should be consulted as soon as possible.
Under Indiana law all dogs, cats and ferrets older than 3 months of age must be vaccinated against rabies. A licensed and accredited veterinarian must administer the vaccine.
Below is a list of times and locations for rabies vaccination clinics. All cats and dogs must be on a leash or in a pet carrier. There is a fee of $7.00 per rabies vaccine. Only the one-year rabies vaccine will be offered. Other vaccinations will be available upon request.
