Marceline Marie Elder


Marceline Marie Elder 78, of Dillsboro, passed away Monday, June 5, 2017 at U.C. Hospital at Cincinnati, Ohio. Marceline was born Tuesday August 23, 1938 in Osgood, the daughter of Alfred and Mildred (Rouse) Kruse. She married Vernon Elder on November 11, 1961 and he survives.

Marceline was self-employed for many years. She was a member of the Dillsboro Church of Christ, Dillsboro Civic Club, Cincinnati Red Stockings Club back in the 1950’s and Women’s Firehouse Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting, drawing, painting, yard work, gardening, canning, dancing, taking care of her friends with haircuts and she was an avid Reds Fan. She loved spending time with her husband and family the most.

Her survivors include husband: Vernon Elder; sons: Ryan (Daniley) Elder; Vern Jr. (Shelly) Elder; daughter: Teresa (Steve) Barger all from Dillsboro; six grandchildren Curtis (Maria) Lewis of Shelbyville, Clay Lewis of Dillsboro, Ryley and Delaney Elder of Dillsboro, Meryssa Gray of Dillsboro, Kelsey (Marty) Scales of Madison; two great grandchildren Emmalyn and Marty Scales of Madison. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister: Pauline Kruse.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 9 at Dillsboro Church of Christ, 11771 Old US 50, Dillsboro IN 47018; with Joel Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, June 8, at Filter-DeVries-Moore Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Dillsboro Church of Christ or Southeastern Shrine Club. Brian W. Stemann

Brian W. Stemann, 68, of Dillsboro, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Christ Hospital at Cincinnati, Ohio. Brian was born Monday, September 13, 1948 in Cincinnati, OH, the son of Donald and Colleen (Smith) Stemann. He married Cindy (Hankins) Stemann December 7, 1968 and she survives.
Brian was a Navy and Army veteran. He worked for the public telephone, Osgood and Versailles police station, and he retired from Crum trucking after 18 years. He enjoyed photography, amateur radios and spending time with his family.

His survivors include wife: Cindy Stemann of Dillsboro; son: Jeff Stemann of Dillsboro; daughters: Julie (Eric) Mullins of Osgood; Crystal (E.J.) Davidson of Milan; mother: Colleen Stemann of Port Orange, FL; sisters: Denise (Rick) Hollins and Angela (Rob) Hatton of Cincinnati; brother-in-law: Jim (Bev) Hankins of Dillsboro, Randy Hankins of Holton; sister-in-law: Karen (Rod) Elswick of Madison; five grandchildren: Johnathon Stemann, Desirae and Dustin Mullins, Emily and Stacy Davidson. He was preceded in death by his father: Donald Stemann.

Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Friday, June 9 at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Miller officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Versailles American Legion Post #173 after the service. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday also at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s’ Children Hospital, Shriner’s Burn Institution or Wounded Warrior Project. Clarice Ann Elston

A much loved mother, grandmother and special lady, Clarice Ann Elston, age 79, of Osgood, passed away today, Monday, June 5, 2017 at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. She was born August 10, 1937 in Guilford, to the late Ralph Ronald and Ida Mae Barrett Johnson.

Clarice was a very accomplished seamstress that had made most of her children’s clothing as they were growing up! She was also noted for the many beautiful crocheted blankets, rugs and dollies that she made. Another great passion she had was the raising of a large bountiful garden along with beautiful flowers! From the early 1990’s to approximately 2003, she could be seen at the Shell Station in Versailles working as a cashier. She was also a past member of the Versailles and Osgood American Legion.

Survivors include: two sons, Steve (Candy) Feller of Guilford and Gene Sparks of Osgood. Three daughters: Joyce (Richard) Sutton of New Marion, Sharon (Dean) Bonta of Osgood and Karen (Tom) Poole of Dillsboro . Nine grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by one sister, Laura Steele.

Funeral will be Thursday, June 8 at 11 am with doors opening at 9 am. Burial will be the Tanglewood Cemetery near Versailles. Memorial donations may go to the Tanglewood cemetery c/o the funeral home. Arrangements entrusted to Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood. www.nealsfuneralhome.net.
