JCD Lady Eagles seek to cut down more SwShelby nets

The IHSAA Class 1A Jac-Cen-Del Lady Eagles battled in Sectional #60 at Waldron High School this year where they won the Sectional Championship against the Waldron Lady Mohawks 50-35. Head Coach Scott Smith also earned his 300th career varsity victory with their 44 point, 74-30 win over the Head Coach Dan Kerker Oldenburg Academy Lady Twisters in the first game of the Sectional.

On the initial tipoff at center court, JCD junior Mariah Day's tap to senior teammate Lilly Simon, who quickly delivered a FG for the opening lead of 2-0, set in motion their anticipated run-away to victory.

The Lady Eagles soared to a 44 point victory advantage, JCD 74-30 OA, to then set their sights on the Sect'l Chamionship game!

The Championship Game,
found similarity after the halftime break, from the hosting Lady Mohawks.

The game's initial scoring came from JCD senior Morgen Carroll's FG for the 2-0 opening score.

Challenging, Waldron took the lead at 3-2 off a 3 pointer delivery. That would be the only Lady Mohawk lead as Lady Eagle Lilly Simon quickly drilled the net popping 3 pointer for a 5-3 JCD lead.

The first tie came at 7-7, before JCD junior Mariah Day deposited her 3 pointer for a 10-7 edge. The Mohawks added one before the horn for JCD 10-8 Waldron.

As second period action evolved, Waldron knotted the game at 10-10. A JCD Simon FG score, 12-10. Tied again at 12-12, JCD freshman Paige Ledford scored a FG for 14-12, from which the Lady Eagles played in the lead at the halftime break, up five at 25-20.

On returning to action, the remainder of the game found JCD in charge and proudly soaring to the 15 point Winning score of 50-35, earning a 10th JCD Sectional Championship Title for Head Coach Scott Smith.

Coach Smith's Win #301, also his 10th career Sectional Title with a Lady Eagle team at 50-35, over the Sectional #60 hosting Waldron Lady Mohawks earned, the JCD Lady Eagles the Regional 15 bid to battle at hosting Southwestern Shelby HS next Saturday, February 10th, where they will find noon opening action as the home team against the 18-7 Coach Justin Blanding University HS Lady Trailblazers.

The 10AM Regional #15 game opener will find the 23-3 Coach Kevin Merriweather led Indianapolis Tindley Lady Tigers in action against the 14-10 Coach Ron Knepp led Bloomfield HS Lady Cardinals.
