Pumpkin Show Cheerleader Contest moved to Tyson Activity Center

Gary Franklin

Sporadic afternoon drizzles prior to the annual Versailles Pumpkin Show Cheerleader Contest left the pavement on the square damp and forced the competition to move inside to the Tyson Activity Center. The Tyson staff went to work and in short notice helped to set up for a safer continuation of the competition.

The event opened with junior high competition between the South Ripley squad and Milan Indians squad. Positive performances by both squads resulted in trophies to each, SRMS first and MMS second. Unlike past years, the JV contest was an exhibition exercise rather than an actual competition. Very active productions by both teams were enjoyed and appreciated by those in attendance.

Varsity high school competition was also limited to South Ripley and Milan squads, as Switzerland County’s squad was a no-show. Strong, enthusiastic and energetic performances were displayed by each team with South Ripley earning the first place trophy and Milan the runner-up. A receptive crowd gathered for the performances.
