Michael D. Kamman

Michael D. Kamman, 53, Columbus, passed from this life at 12:47 p.m. Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. He was born August 1, 1962, in Dearborn County, the son of Walter Kamman Jr. and Earl and Myrtle Renfro Kamman Moberly. He married the former Teresa Whitsitt April 7, 1990.

Michael earned an associate degree in aircraft maintenance from Vincennes University in 1989. He had been an aircraft mechanic for ATA and for the last 15 years he worked as an aircraft mechanic for FedEx in Indianapolis. Michael attended Grace Lutheran Church in Columbus and was a member of the National Rifle Association. He was a former assistant scout leader for Boy Scout Troop 559. He was a devoted and loving husband, dad, grandfather, son, and brother. He loved God with all of his heart and looked forward to spending eternity with his Savior. His hobbies include hunting, fishing, camping, cooking, and motorcycle riding and he was known to be able to fix anything that needed fixed.

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Teresa; his mother and stepfather, Myrtle and Earl Moberly of Holton; children, Molly (Clay) Thurman Hollister of Louisville, KY and Benjamin Kamman of Columbus; a grandson, Eli Hollister; a brother, Christopher (Dawn) Kamman of Greenwood; his mother-in-law, Beatrice Whitsitt of Clifford; a brother-in-law, Steve Whitsitt of Clifford; four nieces; a nephew; and two special companions, his dogs, Reggie and Phoebe.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Kamman Jr.; grandparents, Walter and Leah Kamman Sr. and Walter and Mayme Renfro; and a nephew, PFC Geoffrey Whitsitt who lost his life while serving our country in Afghanistan.

Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 2, at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home, Columbus, with Pastor John W. Armstrong officiating. Burial was at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Simon Cancer Center. Online condolences and special memories may be shared with the Kamman family and a video tribute may be viewed at barkesweaverglick.com. Bernard Joseph “Boo” Schafer, 87, Madison, passed away Monday, November 2, 2015. Funeral mass will be held Friday, November 6 at 3 p.m. at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Madison, with burial in the St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Madison. Visitation will be Thursday, November 5, from 3-8 p.m. and Friday from 12 Noon until 2:30 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, Madison. Memorials may be given to the Friends of Shawe and Pope John or Habitat For Humanity or The Marge Tandy Scholarship or the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, contribution cards are available at the funeral home.
