Verna F. Craven


Verna F. Craven, 93 of Milan, passed away Sunday May 29, 2016, at Ripley Crossing in Milan. Verna was born Friday March 2, 1923, in Dearborn County, the daughter of Charles and Hazel (Hehe) Naegele. She married Warren Craven April 25, 1943 and he preceded her in death January 7, 2002.

She was a member of the Milan First Baptist Church. She worked at Milan Health and Hospitality Center until she retired in 1984. Verna enjoyed quilting, sewing, baking cakes for special occasions for the family, canning, gardening, avid reader, family said she was a farm wife without having a farm, and spending time with her family.

Verna is survived by daughters: Phyllis (Ralph) Joerger of Guilford; Melissa (Mike) McMannon of Independence, Ky.; brothers: Dale Naegele of Fairmount, West Virginia, John Naegele of Batesville; sister: Mary Cheshire of Fla.; two grandchildren: Allan (Heidi) Thompson and Jennifer (Jim) Hunger; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Warren Craven and one son Mike Craven, 2 brothers: Carl and Lloyd “Chip” Naegele.
Funeral services will be Thursday June 2, 11 a.m. at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan, with pastor Harris Long officiating. Burial will follow in Craven Cemetery south of Milan. Visitation will be Wednesday 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Milan Library, Cancer Fund, or Heart Fund. Eslie Morris Alford

Eslie Morris Alford, 83, of near Fairview, died Friday, May 27, 2016, at Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Vevay. She was born November 25, 1932, in Madison, the daughter of Abe and Mildred Nannie (Whitham) Alford.

Visitation was held Tuesday, May 31, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 1, at Olive Branch Baptist Church with Pastor Patrick Lanman officiating. Interment was at Olive Branch Cemetery, Bear Branch. Full military rites were conducted at the cemetery by the Honor Guard of Vevay American Legion Post #185 and Vevay VFW Post #5396.

John Levi, 63 of Milan, passed away Thursday May 25, 2016, at his residence. John was born July 10, 1952, in Milan, the son of Ernest and Juanita (Walker) Levi. Marilyn E. Wilder

Marilyn E. Wilder of Batesville, age 89, died Saturday, May 28, 2016, at her home in Batesville. Private services have been held. Meyers Funeral Home is serving the family.
