Plane crash claims 3 lives, plus a pet

According to information from the Indiana State Police, a plane crashed on North Hamburg Road near Oldenburg in Franklin County claiming the lives of all three people on board, along with a pet. The crash occurred on Saturday, December 16 at 9:10 p.m. Another dog on board survived the fiery crash and is now being treated at a local veterinarian for injuries.

The names of those who perished in the crash have not been released due to pending autopsies. The Franklin County Coroner’s Office will confirm their identities and speak with their relatives after the autopsies have been done. They were scheduled for Monday, December 18. The police were notified when reports that an aircraft had crashed and that the plane possibly caught fire after crashing. Cincinnati Air Traffic Control reported that a plane that was being tracked disappeared from radar in the area where the crash was reported. When officers arrived on the scene they located the fire from the wreckage in a heavily wooded area behind a residence. Fire personnel extinguished the flames.

The initial investigation determined that the single engine Cessna (Tail Number N761YZ) had left Kansas City, Missouri and was heading to an airport in Frederick, Maryland when the crash occurred.

The Indiana State Police is conducting a joint investigation with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). The investigation is ongoing and may take weeks to complete according to police.
