Chester C. Vogel


Chester C. Vogel, 79, of Canaan, passed away at 10 p.m., Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at University Hospital in Cincinnati. He was born at Friendship on July 10, 1937, the son of Walter and Leona Thieman Vogel. He was married to Margaret Elbrecht on September 22, 1962 and his wife of 54 years survives. Other survivors include one son, Brian (Pam) Vogel of Scipio; one daughter, Beth (Keith) Sieverding of Cross Plains; three grandsons, Andrew and Stephen Sieverding, and Samuel Vogel; one sister Marietta (Junior) Niederbaumer of Farmers Retreat. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Vogel was a 1955 graduate of Vevay High School and was an Army veteran. He retired in 1995 from Seagrams where he had worked in security for 27 years. He had also worked as a self-employed trucker hauling milk and fertilizer, was once employed with Cummins, and also farmed. Chester was an accomplished fiddle player and was the second inductee into the Southeast Indiana Musicians Hall of Fame. He was a lifelong member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Dewberry.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 10 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Dewberry with Pastor Juan Luna officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with military graveside rites by the Versailles American Legion. Memorials may be given to the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ripley County 40 & 8, or the Friendship Fire Department in care of Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home, Versailles.


Mary Louise Craig

Mary Louise Craig, age 89, of Osgood, passed away Friday afternoon, April 7, 2017 at Kentuckiana Medical Center in Clarksville. She was born September 22, 1927 in San Bernardino, California to the late James Herbert and Mary Maybel Nunn Birdwell.

Mary moved to the Osgood area around 1989 to be near her daughter, Robin L. Reeves, where she remained living the rest of her life. You may have seen her on the streets of Osgood proudly driving her golf cart. She always had a smile on her face and loved saying hello to everyone! She was known for her style in dressing that was strikingly unconventional and was sometimes far-fetched in appearance! She had attended the Osgood Christian Church and the Senior Citizen Center where she enjoyed playing bingo.

Survivors include her daughters, Robin L. (Tim) Reeves of Osgood, Mary Lea Bekkers of Leesburg, Florida and Joanna Padilla of Mesa, Arizona. Six grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her daughter Barbara Smith and two sisters Lois Heizer and Rosanna Hester.

A short memorial service will be held Sunday, April 16 at 12:15 p.m. at the Osgood Christian Church immediately following the regular church service. Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood, is entrusted with arrangements.

Mark L. Oglesbee, 54, of Osgood, passed away Thursday, March 30 at his home. No services will be held. Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood, is in charge of arrangements.


James Edward Dillon, Jr.

James Edward Dillon, Jr., 71, of Milan, passed away Friday, March 24, 2017 at Dearborn County Hospital. No services will be held. Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood, was in charge of arrangements.


Dale Allen Gindling

Dale Allen Gindling, age 63, of Batesville, passed away Thursday, April 6, 2017. Memorial services were held Sunday, April 9 at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville. Memorials are suggested to the family for medical expenses. Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville, was in charge of arrangements.
