Velvie Kay (Hensley) Hellman

Velvie Kay (Hensley) Hellman, age 65, of Osgood, passed away late Friday, September 8, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Kokomo on January 22, 1952, the daughter of Marvin and Ruth (Bessler) Hensley. Early on her family moved from Kokomo to the Napoleon community and she attended the Napoleon Grade School.

In the early 90’s she met Ron Hellman and they were married on May 31, 1996 in Carrolton, Kentucky. They lived in Versailles for a while and then moved back outside of Osgood and remained to live there until her passing. She was a very unique lady, and loved life and her family. She was known for her sophisticated ghost stories and making them realistic. Velvie enjoyed quilting and making one of a kind craft pieces, canning and gardening anything possible. She loved being a mamaw to her great grandson Jace.

Velvie is survived by her husband Ron at home, daughter Kathy (A J) Riley of Napoleon, two granddaughters (Shyler and Shaylynn), one great grandson (Jace), brothers; Ronald (Frances) of Osgood, Dennis (Pam) of Greensburg, and Larry (Paula) of Wiseburg. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Dianna Huffmeyer.

Visitation will be held Tuesday September 12 at Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood from 4-6 pm. followed by a funeral service at 6:00 pm. Memorials may be made out to Our Hospice of Jennings County in care of Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood.

Lois F. Schilling, 89, of Moores Hill, passed away Thursday, September 7, 2017. Services will be at the convenience of the family. Romona J. Thrasher, 88, of Osgood, formerly of Moores Hill, passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2017. A service was held Saturday, Sept. 9 at Sibbett-Moore Funeral Home, Moores Hill. Burial will be at a later time in Evergreen Cemetery at Southgate, Kentucky. Memorials may be given to the Shriner’s at the Southeastern Indiana Shrine Club at Dillsboro through the funeral home.
