SR Raiders ‘Roll Up’ Bowling Sectional title: Qualify in Regional for Semi-State

Gary Franklin
SPORTS EDITOR

For the fourth time in his team's eight seasons of existence, South Ripley Raider Head Bowling Coach Ron Pollard has led the boys team to the Sectional Championship Title. This one for the 2017-18 season, which was acquired during their Saturday, January 13, competition held in Bloomington. Nearly all high school sports, every season find members graduating and the need for rebuilding. The same holds true with bowling.

Solid leadership and individual drive and dedication develop into winning teams, as has been the case for the South Ripley Bowling team. Senior members of this year's boys team are: Isaac Wake and Nick Hill, both dominating their Sectional step ladder finals, defeating Madison in the semi-final round and Seymour for the Sectional Championship Title.

"It took a complete team effort", stated Coach Pollard, "All boys bowled well!" Coach Pollard added, "I had to rotate the boys as conditions on the lanes was very tough. Success was found as all seven kids did their part to reach the day's goal, "Seniors Hill & Wake, sophomores: Chase Thomas and Jacob Grossman, along with freshmen: Austin Bond, Tyler Liming and Jesse Steele."

The Raider boys team competed in Regional team action on Saturday, January 20, at Strike Force Lanes Bowling Alley in Greenfield, and qualified for semi-state. They will go on to compete in the semi-state on Jan. 27 at Richmond. See this week's Versailles Republican for more details.

In Sectional Singles
Raider senior Isaac Wake earned advancement to Boys Regional action. At Regionals he finished second highest in singles to advance to Semi-State Singles competition.

South Ripley Girls
The Lady Raider girls team finished their Sectional activity in 3rd place. All underclassmen, the Lady Raider Team is eligible to return next season. The team includes four juniors: Rilee Beavin, Kyra Chance, Julie Almaraz and Skyler Cloney along with sophomore Jasmine Almaraz. With many years of experience and earned accolades and hardware on exhibit in their trophy cases as reminders of what hard work can do, obviously the SR Raider bowling teams and community are fortunate to have a most knowledgeable and patient leader as Coach Ron Pollard, who is one of the co-owner/operators of "Pollards Bowl" in Versailles, where he and family are prominent bowlers known far and wide.
