JCD Lady Eagles win eighth consecutive IHSAA Class 1A Sectional 60 championship title

Gary Franklin
SPORTS EDITOR

Jac-Cen-Del Lady Eagles under the lead of Head Coach Scott Smith claimed their eighth consecutive IHSAA Class 1A Sectional title on Saturday, Feb. 6 when they defeated Southwestern Shelby Lady Spartans 51-21 at Jac-Cen-Del High School. The game afforded no surprises considering Coach Scott Smith’s 23-1 JCD Lady Eagles’ record. The surprise of each game has been who will end up as the top scorer, leading rebounder, gather the most assists, or be the most aggressive on defense for JCD. This was Coach Smith’s 12th Sectional win of his 15-year career, assisted by JV Coach Matt McNew for most of those years. This year the Hauser Lady Jets, Waldron Lady Mohawks and Southwestern Shelby Lady Spartans were added to the Sectional schedule and Madison Shawe was shuffled out.

The opening action of Wednesday evening Feb. 3, led Rising Sun Lady Shiners a 26-point victor at 54-28 over the Oldenburg Academy Lady Twisters led by Coach Dan Kirker. The Wednesday evening, Feb. 3, second game action found Southwestern Shelby Lady Spartans dominating to secure a 20-point, 63-43 victory over South Decatur Lady Cougars. The Friday evening Feb. 5, opener found the Lady Eagles securing a 23-point, 65-42 win over Hauser Lady Jets to earn a seat in the Championship game. The Friday evening Feb. 5 action pitted Rising Sun Lady Shiners in action against Sw.
