Linda Lou Smith
Linda Lou Smith, 53, of Versailles, died May 24, 2004 at Margaret Mary Community
Hospital, Batesville. She was born April 26, 1951 in Seymour the daughter of
Albert E. Smith and Emma Jean Huntington Smith, both deceased.
She is survived by one daughter, Alicia Pettit of Versailles, one son, Zachary
Smith of North Vernon, five sisters, Barbara Campfield and Beth Hoard both of
North Vernon, Kay Meier of Versailles, Pam Walston of Versailles, one brother,
Millard Smith of Rising Sun, companion Billy Pettit of Versailles and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister Mary Ellen Bradley.
Ms. Smith was a homemaker and a graduate of South Ripley High School.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 28, from 4-8 p.m. at the Pickett Funeral
Home, North Vernon. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 29 at 11 a.m.
with Rev. Pat Harrigan officiating. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery,
Versailles.

Tilly" Granger
Matilda "Tilly" Granger, 79, of Osgood, passed away
Sunday, May 23, 2004 at the Jewish Hospital, Louisville, KY.
She was born in Osgood on October
6, 1924 the daughter of James and Emma Hoover Corson. She was married to Lawrence
Granger on December 27, 1947 and he survives.
Other survivors include four sons, Dennis Granger and wife Lisa of Greensburg,
Kenny Granger and Janet of Indianapolis, Rick Granger and Kathy of Fort Wayne,
and Jack Granger of Milan, one daughter, Kathy Hansen and husband Kevin of Deputy,
thirteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by her parents, seven brothers and four sisters.
Mrs. Granger was a lifelong resident of Osgood and was a member of the Osgood
United Methodist Church. She had served as an EMT with Rescue 69 for thirteen
years. She had also served as a den mother with Cub Scout Pack 38 in Osgood and
had volunteered at Buckeye Village in Osgood.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 4 at 11 a.m. at the Osgood United
Methodist Church with Rev. Rob Rixman, Rev. Wm. Hoopes and Rev. Gatha Eha officiating.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
Memorials may be given to the Osgood United Methodist Church.

Dale Abbott III
Michael Dale Abbott III, 2, of Greensburg, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004 in Greensburg.
He was born October 8, 2001 in Greensburg the son of Michael D. Abbott Jr. and
Tiffany Thomas and they survive.
Other survivors include one brother, Samuel Sweet of Greensburg, three sisters,
Rachael Abbott, Debra Abbott both of Rushville, Alexandra Thomas of Greensburg,
maternal grandparents, Susan Wells of Greensburg, Howard Thomas of Indianapolis,
paternal grandparents, Michael D. Abbott Sr. and Debra Abbott both of Osgood,
maternal great grandmother, Wilma Taylor of Greensburg and many aunts, uncles
and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Delmar Wells.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 27 from 12 noon until the time of funeral
services at 3 p.m. at Gilliland Howe Funeral Home, Greensburg. Funeral services
will be held at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Moscow Cemetery,
Moscow.

Leona E. Borgman
Leona E. Borgman, 85, of Batesville, died Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at Margaret
Mary Community Hospital, Batesville. She was born May 26, 1918 in Ripley County
the daughter of George Hunteman and Sophia Sembach, both deceased. She married
Howard Borgman on August 3, 1939 at Stumpke's Corner and he preceded her in
death.
Survivors include Mrs. Delbert (Mary Jo) Miller of St. Paul, Mrs. Richard (Barbara)
Hipple of Fairfax, VA, William H. Borgman of Batesville, daughter-in-law, Mary
Borgman, six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by one brother, Ralph Hunteman and one sister, Alma Hunteman.
Mrs. Borgman was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Napoleon, and the ELCA
of the church, Ladies Organization, Napoleon Leisure Club, Decatur County Senior
Citizens, Home Extension Club and the Tri County Genealogy Society. She was a
graduate of Napoleon School and a homemaker.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 15 at 10 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran
Church, Napoleon with Pastor Gary Groth officiating. Burial was in the St. John's
Cemetery, Napoleon.
Memorials may be given to the Napoleon Fire Department or the Napoleon Church.

Cheri L. Lachenman
Cheri L. Lachenman, 55, of Cross Plains, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at
her residence. She was born in Cincinnati, OH on April 27, 1949 to Robert Lee
and Geneva Shell Smith. Ms. Lachenman was a realtor with Help-U-Sell Realty
in Aurora.
She is survived by her fiancÈ, Chris Bram of Cross Plains, her mother,
Geneva Smith of Cincinnati, OH, two sons, Shawn Lachenman and Jesse Lachenman
both of Rising Sun, one daughter, Kathryn Lachenman of Rising Sun and one sister,
Kim Cox of Cincinnati, OH.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorials may
be given to the American Cancer Society.

Dorothy May Valentine, 80, of Aurora, died Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at her residence.
She was born June 9, 1923 in Manchester, KY the daughter of Louis Valentine
and Lou M. Hurd, both deceased. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include one sister, Alice Hedger of Aurora and one niece, Melinda McCool
of Moores Hill.
Graveside services will be held Friday, May 14, 9:30 a.m. EDT at Riverview Cemetery
in Aurora. Filter Funeral Home, Aurora, is in charge of the arrangements.
Helen Genelle Krick
Helen Genelle Krick, 93, of Clearwater, Florida, formerly of Milan, died Sunday,
May 9, 2004 at her residence. She was born January 5, 1911 in Seymour the daughter
of Goldie Helen (Tucker) and Chester Wallace Sutton. She graduated from Shields
High School in Seymour and was a Zeta Tau Alpha while attending Franklin College
in Franklin. She married Walter A. Krick of Milan in 1930 and he preceded her
in death on December 30, 1993.
Survivors include two daughters, Beverly Jean Neihardt and Vivian Lea Krick,
both of Clearwater, Florida, three granddaughters and husbands, Rhonda and Steve
Kauffman, Jodie and Matt Rich, Tonya and Tom Porter, one son-in-law, Joseph H.
Neihardt and four great-grandchildren, Christopher and Mackenzie Kauffman, Micah
Rich and Sarah Porter. She was preceded in death by one brother, Glenn Wallace
Sutton of Athens, Georgia.
Mrs. Krick and her husband owned and operated Krick Distributing Company in Ripley
and Jefferson counties from 1943 to 1993. She was a member of the Milan Methodist
Church, a member and Past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star Electa Chapter
#135 and was also active in the New Harmony Club, Clearwater Lioness Club and
Island Estates Women's Club.
Visitation will be held Sunday, May 16, 7-8:30 p.m. (slow time) at Laws-Carr-Moore
Funeral Home in Milan.
Graveside services will be held Monday, May 17, 11:30 a.m. (slow time) in Cravens
Cemetery in Milan with Rev. Richard Smith officiating. Memorials may go to the
Diabetes Foundation, the Ripley County Heart Association or Cravens Cemetery.
Jerri Renee Binder
Jerri Renee Binder, 46, of Milan, died Tuesday, May 11, 2004 in Sunman. She was
born April 28, 1958 in Cincinnati, OH the daughter of Kenneth and Helen Shell
Short. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her mother, Helen Short of Aurora, one daughter, Misty Collins
of Sunman, one son, Chad Collins of Sunman, two sisters, Darlene Worthington
of Huntington, Sandra Duffrene of Manchester, one brother, Duane Short of Manchester,
special friend Nick Allgeier of Sunman and her first husband, Allen Robert Collins.
She was preceded in death by her father and her sister, Donita Burnette.
Visitation will be held today, Thursday, May 13, 10 a.m. to 12 noon (slow time)
at Cook Funeral Home in Sunman.
Funeral services will follow visitation at the funeral home at 12 noon with Rev.
Pete Witt officiating.
Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery in Sunman. Memorials may go to the Sunman

John A. Cole
John A. Cole, 73, of Columbus, died Saturday, May 8, 2004 at South Central Indiana
Hospice Care Center in Columbus. He was born December 24, 1930 in Holton the
son of Rex H. and Jennie Mills Cole, both deceased. He married Gracie Hollin
on June 1, 1958 in Westport and she survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Melissa (Mrs. Brian) Corya, Annette Cole,
one son, Darrell Rex Cole, all of Columbus, two sisters, Betty Ponsler and Phyllis
Rockie, both of Westport and one grandson, Jacob Corya of Columbus.
Mr. Cole worked from 1962 to 1992 for Cummins Engine Company. He was a member
of the Diesel Workers Union and was also a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 12 at Myers Funeral Service - Reed & Jewell
Chapel in Columbus with Rev. Fred Darling and Rev. David Skaggs, Sr. officiating.
Burial was in the Garland Brook Cemetery in Columbus. Memorials may go to the
Hospice of South Central Indiana or American Diabetes Association.

Patricia M. "Pat" Baumgartner, 69, of Madison, formerly
of Switzerland County, died Monday, May 10, 2004 at King's
Daughters' Hospital in Madison. She
was born April 27, 1935 in Bennington the daughter of Maurice E. Ash, Sr. and
Beryl (Gardner) Sigmon, both deceased.
Survivors include her companion of twenty years, Milton Rowlett of Madison, one
son, Stephen Bennett and wife Betty of Madison, two daughters, Michelle McGuire
of Indianapolis, Monica Kelly and husband Bill of Bend, Oregon, one sister, Paulina
Scudder and husband Rev. John Scudder of East Enterprise, six grandchildren,
three great-grandchildren, one niece, one nephew and other relatives. She was
preceded in death by her stepfather, Paul Rayburn Sigmon and one brother, Maurice
Ash, Jr.
Mrs. Baumgartner was employed as a clerk for Grote Manufacturing in Madison for
seventeen years. She had worked the past three years in the cafeteria for Madison
Consolidated High School. She was a member of the Hope Rebekah Lodge #851 in
Bennington and the Long Run Baptist Church near Moorefield.
Visitation will be held today, Thursday, May 13, 5-7 p.m. (slow time) at Morgan-Webster-Nay
Funeral Home in Madison.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 14, 11 a.m. at the funeral home with
Rev. John Scudder officiating.
Burial will be in the Grandview Memorial Gardens in Madison. Memorials may go

Phyllis Shorten Kirk
Phyllis Shorten Kirk, 64, of Louisa, KY, died Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at King's
Daughters' Hospital Medical Center. She was born November 18, 1939 in Delaware
the daughter of William L. Shorten and Mary A. Helton Shorten, both deceased.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her former husband, Ira Kirk of Louisa, KY, four daughters,
Trena (Sidney) Blackburn, Lorie (David) Ison, Mary Jane (Doug) Foster and Nellie
(Darrell) Hopson, all of Louisa, KY, one son, James F. (Ruth Ann) Kirk of Fort
Gay, WV, two sisters, Wilma Robbins of Milan, Pat (Steve) Foist of Columbus,
six grandchildren and one on the way.
Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, May 13, 2 p.m. at Wilson Funeral

Edna Franklin Hayward
Edna Franklin Hayward died in Venice, FL on May 3, 2004. She was born July 13,
1913 in Holton, MO the daughter of William (Fred) and Queen Franklin both deceased.
She married Harold Hayward and he preceded her in death.
Survivors include by daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Chuck Copeland, Susan
and Ralph Larson and Linda and Tom Niedermeier, brothers and wives, Paul and
Helen Franklin, Carthel and NoVelle Franklin, sister-in-law Evelyn Franklin,
eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She
was preceded in death by her brother William Evert Franklin.
Mrs. Hayward received her teaching certificate from Hanover College, attended
Indiana University and taught in New Marion. She was an active member of the
Grace Lutheran and Ebenezer Lutheran in Chicago, Emmanuel Lutheran in Evanston,
IL and Trinity Presbyterian in Venice.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church of South Venice
on Saturday, May 7 at 10:30 a.m.

Norman D. "Shorty" Robinson
Norman D. "Shorty" Robinson, 79, of Patriot died Tuesday, May 4,
2004 at his residence. He was born December 18, 1924 in Ohio County the son
of Graydon
G. Robinson and Pearl G. (Keith) Robinson. He married Ruth Smith on May 2, 1947
and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Steven Robinson and wife Kathryn and Eddy Robinson
all of Patriot, one daughter, Susie Centers and her companion Richard Snowden
of Berea, KY, seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two aunts, Mabel
Evans of Versailles and Gertrude Paxton of Phoenix, AZ, several nieces, nephews
and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Cynthia Jo Robinson, one brother, Donald
Robinson and one grandson James Ryan Welch.
Mr. Robinson was a 1943 graduate of Patriot High School and attended Purdue University.
He was inducted into the United States Navy on July 3, 1943, serving during WWII.
He rose to the rank of Mineman Third Class serving the USNABPD San Bruno, CA;
NAD Mare Island, CA, NAD Hawthorne, Nevada; USS Wichita and the USNTS Great Lakes
IL. He was honorably discharged on May 13, 1946, receiving the Asiatic Pacific
Area Ribbon, American Area Ribbon and WWII Victory Ribbon. He was a school bus
driver for Switzerland County Schools for eight years, serving as transportation
director for one year. He served as the gravedigger for the East View Cemetery
at Patriot for twenty years. He was a member of the Rising Sun American Legion
Post 59, the Patriot Alumni Association, and attended the New Liberty Baptist
Church and Patriot Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 6 from 4-8 p.m. slow time and Friday from
9 a.m. until the time of services at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home,
Vevay. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 7, at 11 a.m. at the funeral
home with Rev. Frank Forthman officiating.
Burial will follow in the East View Cemetery, Patriot with full military graveside
rites conducted by the Rising Sun American Legion Post #59 Honor Guard.

the funeral home.

June A. Peetz, 78, died in a Phoenix, Arizona hospital Thursday,
April 22, 2004. Her husband, Harold L. Peetz preceded her
in death on October 15, 2000.
