of Jeremiah O'Donovan, Randy and Jeffery Slayback, Curtis and Katie McNutt, Stephen
Troxell, Katie, Emily and Zachary Sparks, great-grandmother of Elizabeth Bishop,
died Saturday, July 24, 2004 at age 72.

Julia C. Pate, 89, of Dillsboro, died Saturday, July 24, 2004 in Raleigh, NC.
She was born November 14, 1914 in Lawrenceburg, KY the daughter of Clyde Case
and Alla Sale, both deceased. She married Paul M. Pate and he preceded her
in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Sarah Pate Daniell of Raleigh, NC, Jennie Carmical
of Roswell, GA, one brother, Richard Allen Case of Lawrenceburg, KY, three grandchildren,
one great grandchild and one great-great grandchild.
Mrs. Pate was a homemaker.
Visitation will be held Sunday, August 1, from 5-8 p.m. EDT at Ulrich Filter
Funeral Home, Dillsboro. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 2 at 11
a.m. EDT, at the Oakdale Cemetery, Dillsboro. Burial will be in the Oakdale Cemetery.

Mary L. Shinn
Mary L. Shinn, 87, of Dallas, TX, formerly of Milan, died Tuesday, July 27 at
her residence. She was born March 7, 1917 in Newport, KY, the daughter of Charles
F. and Jeanette (Brown) Carr, both deceased. She married Blair Shinn on May
8, 1933 and he preceded her in death on January 19, 1989.
Survivors include one son, Blair Shinn of Batesville, two daughters, Roberta
Powell of Dallas, TX, Delores Reynolds of Pineville, LA, ten grandchildren, ten
great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by three sisters and one daughter, Anna Louis Gordon.
Mrs. Shinn was a homemaker.
Visitation will be held Saturday, July 31, at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan
with funeral services following at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Stormy
Scherer-Berry officiating. Burial will be in the New Craven Cemetery. Memorials

Violet Bare McClain
Violet Bare McClain, 92, of Versailles, passed away Friday, July 23, 2004 at
Manderley Health Care Facility in Osgood. She was born near St. Paul on March
14, 1912 the daughter of John and Lillie Rutherford Rathburn. She was married
to Irvan Bare who preceded her in death in 1967.
Other survivors include one daughter, Jean Kuhen of Oregon, one son, William
Rathburn of Green Valley, AZ, two grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Don Bare, her sisters, Lula
Watson, Edith Peters and Mary Rathburn and her brothers, Lawrence, Roy, John,
Russell, Edgar and Gerald.
Ms. McClain worked at the five and dime in Osgood, Ensingers Furniture Store
in Osgood and Rice's Grocery in Osgood for twenty years. She was a member of
the Presbyterian Church in Kingston since 1931 and attended the Versailles Baptist
Church regularly.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 29, 10 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter
Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Mark Walker of the Versailles Baptist Church
officiating.
Burial will be in the Mud Pike Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Mud Pike
Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
Eugene Fields
Eugene Fields, 78, of Milan, died Monday, July 26, 2004 at Manderley Health Care
Center at Osgood. He was born November 13, 1925 in Cincinnati, the son of Joseph
and Norma (Wolf) Fields, both deceased. He married Judy I. Bland Fields on
March 29, 1952 and she preceded him in death on March 5, 1979.
Survivors include one son, Kurt (Gwen) Fields of Dayton, KY, two daughters, Brenda
Sue (James) Downey of Butlerville, Julie (Todd) Schwipps of Greensburg, two brothers,
Doug Fields of Cold Springs, KY, Bill Fields of Greensburg, two sisters, Hilda
Stepleton of Osgood, Rheadawn Peetz of Osgood, nine grandchildren, eight great
grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
one brother, Jo Fields Jr., and one sister, Marcella Adkins.
Mr. Fields was retired from Schenley Distillery, Lawrenceburg, a WWII Army veteran,
a member of the Milan American Legion Post #235 and the Milan VFW Post #6234,
the F&AM, Scottish Rite and the Shrine.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 29, from 6-8 p.m. at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral
Home, Milan. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 30 at 11 a.m. at the
funeral home with Rev. Charles McKinley officiating. Burial will be in the St.
Paul Lutheran Cemetery north of Milan with military graveside rites conducted
by the Milan Legion and the Milan VFW.

Charles Cubert
Charles E. Cubert, 67, of Milan, died Monday, July 19, 2004 at his residence
south of Milan. He was born February 16, 1937 in Indianapolis the son of John
W. and Harriett (Milam) Cubert. He married Ruth Schuler and then married Patricia
Ballmer.
Survivors include two former wives, two sons, Mark Cubert of Moores Hill, Patrick
Cubert of Independence, KY, three stepsons, Mark Ballmer of Zanesville, OH, Kevin
Ballmer of Milan, Scott Ballmer of Dry Ridge, KY, two daughters, Diana Kasirosafar
of Highland Hts., KY, Michelle Brazier of Florence, KY, stepdaughter, Beth Ann
Harris of Suffolk, VA, good friends, Tim and Pam Lytle of Martinsville, one brother,
Wendell Cubert of Millers Creek, NC, two sisters, Rosemary Patterson of St. Louis,
MO, Sarah Hendrix of Carmel, numerous nieces and nephews, 11 grandchildren, 15
step grandchildren and one step great grandchild.
Mr. Cubert was retired from General Electric - Evendale and an electronic maintenance
repairman, a veteran of the Navy, Air Force and Air National Guard, a member
of the Washington Baptist Church, secretary of Milan Masonic Lodge #31, NRA AARP,
Milan Legion #235, and Machinist Union #912.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 23 from 6-8 p.m. at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral
Home, Milan with Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday,
July 24 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Bruce Fitzsimmons officiating.
Military services will also be held at the funeral home.

Christina "Christie" Kostin
Christina "Christie" Kostin, 36, of Elrod, passed away Sunday, July
18, 2004 at the University of Cincinnati Hospital in Cincinnati. She was born
in Anderson on January 30, 1968, the daughter of Marvin Dilk of Holton and Karen
Eggenburger, who precedes her. She was married to Aaron Kostin on October 4,
2001 and he survives.
Other survivors include one son, Marc Anthony Dilk of Edinburg, one brother,
Kevin Lee Dilk of Holton, paternal grandparents, Nelson and Dorothy Dilk of Versailles.
Mrs. Kostin worked for Ernie's Pizza in Versailles.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 21, at 7 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter
Funeral Home, Versailles with Rev. Sherman Hughes officiating. Burial will be
in the Marble Corner Cemetery, Versailles at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 22.

Helen N. Gunter
Helen N. (Hunteman) Gunter, 81, of Osgood, died Monday, July 19, 2004 in Decatur
County Memorial Hospital, Greensburg. She was born July 31, 1922 in Ripley
County the daughter of Harry H. Hunteman and Ruth Elizabeth (Straber) Hunteman,
both deceased. She married Clarence Gunter on April 23, 1947 in Greensburg
and he survives.
Other survivors include one son, Jerry and wife Nora Gunter of Osgood, three
daughters, Mary and husband John Wilson of Plainfield, Martha and husband Wayne
Peetz of Batesville, Betty and husband Bob Hortemiller of Batesville, two sister,
Mary and husband Leo Fruchtnicht of Greensburg, Margaret Hunter of Greensburg,
14 grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by two sisters,
Dorothy Brown, Florence Hunteman and one son, David Gunter.
Mrs. Gunter was a housewife, a member of the Welca Women's Group at the St. John's
Lutheran Church, Napoleon, member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Napoleon, the
Worth While Homemakers Club of Napoleon and a graduate of Napoleon High School.
Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, July 22 at 11 a.m. at the St.
John's Lutheran Church, Napoleon with Pastor Gary Groth officiating. Burial will
be in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Napoleon. Memorials may be made to the
St. John's Lutheran Church.

Leonard L. Meyer
Leonard L. Meyer, 96, of North Vernon, died Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at Jennings
County Health Care, North Vernon. He was born May 10, 1908 in Washington Township
the son of William B. Meyer and Mabel (Lotshaw) Meyer. He married Minnie (Newby)
Meyer and she preceded him in death.
Survivors include one son, Edward Meyer of Columbus, one sister, Mildred Gault
of Milan, daughter-in-law, Sharon Meyer of North Vernon, several grandchildren
and several great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Jerry Meyer.
Mr. Meyer was a custodian at the Boone County REMC and a member of the Washington
Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held today, Thursday, July 22, at 11 a.m. at Bovard-Holt-Furst
Funeral Home, Versailles with Rev. Bruce Fitzsimmons officiating. Burial followed

Steve" Walston
Steven M. "Steve" Walston, 56, of Shelbyville, died
Tuesday, July 20, 2004. He was born September 24, 1947 in Milan
the son of Donald A. Walston and
Wilma E. Bushman. He married Anna Lisa Klenk on June 29, 1991 and she survives.
Other survivors include his mother, Wilma E. Walston of Dillsboro, two sons,
Joshua B. (Kathey) Walston of Noblesville, Travis R. Powell of Shelbyville, two
daughters, Amanda D. Walston of Indianapolis, Courtney B. Powell of Indianapolis,
one grandson, Garrett M. Powell of Shelbyville, and two brothers, Jay Walston
of Dillsboro and Tim Walston of Friendship. He was preceded in death by his father,
Donald A. Walston.
Mr. Walston was employed with the Bradley Management Group serving in many different
capacities. He was a sales rep for Saulsbury Equipment and for Mobile Medical,
owner of Walston Emergency Vehicles in Fountaintown and Shelbyville, was co-owner
of Kretler-Walston Company, and was vice president of Turn Key Corporation in
Indianapolis. After retiring he was co-owner of Bear Creek Antiques. He was a
1985 graduate of Dillsboro High School and a 1970 graduate of IUPUI with a degree
in construction technology. He also attended Purdue. He was a member of St. Mark's
Lutheran Church, Thrivent for Lutherans, Shelby County Historical Society, Indianapolis
Museum of Art & Eitelijorg Museum, Rushville Elks, Sons of the Legion in
Morristown and Early American Pattern Glass Society. He was a 15 year member
of the Volunteer Firemen for Fountaintown Fire Dept. serving as chief for 3 years
and president of the board of directors, Indiana Volunteer Fire Association,
International Association of Fire Chiefs and was also a fire fighter and EMT
instructor.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 23, 4 p.m. at Carmony-Ewing Funeral Home
in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 24 at St. Mark Lutheran Church in
Shelbyville with Pastor Howard Whitecotton officiating.
Burial will be in the Oakdale Cemetery in Dillsboro at 1 p.m. (slow time). Memorials

Grayson Gayheart
Willard Grayson Gayheart, 84, of Batesville, died Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at the
VA Hospital, Cincinnati. He was born September 19, 1919 at Hazard, KY, the son
of Joe and Nancy Combs Gayheart. He married Evelyn Steward on May 6, 1942 at
Talladega, AL, and she survives in Batesville.
Other survivors include stepmother, Rosa Combs of Hazard, KY, two sons, James
G. Gayheart and Howard C. Gayheart both of Batesville, ten grandchildren, and
22 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Charlotte Utter
in 1998.
Mr. Gayheart was an Army veteran of WWII, baptized at the Milan Baptist Church
and then attended Green Chapel Church south of Elrod, worked at the Jefferson
Proving Ground as a civilian gunner for ten years leaving in 1972, worked as
a security guard for Hillenbrand Industries for 22 years retiring in 2001, and
farmed.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 22 from 5-8 p.m. at Neal's Funeral Home,
Osgood. Private family funeral services will be held. Burial will be in the Delaware
Cemetery, Osgood. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Fern Ida Kappes
Fern Ida Kappes, 92, of Shelbyville, died Tuesday, July 13, 2004 at Major Hospital
in Shelbyville. She was born August 12, 1911 the daughter of Wilbur Snyder
and Adie Dellekamp. She married Bernard Fredrick Kappes in April 1939 and he
preceded her in death on May 16, 1974.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Charles (Mary Lou) Brown of Shelbyville,
one son, John W. (Barb) Kappes of Waldron, three sisters, Ruth Clawson, Mary
Jane Walton, Catherine Schontrup, all of Shelbyville, two brothers, James Snyder
of Arizona, David Snyder of Shelbyville, seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren
and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers,
Richard E. Snyder, Wayne Snyder, and Jay Snyder.
Mrs. Kappes was a RN at Margaret Mary Community Hospital for 33 years and for
14 years at the Shelbyville Heritage House retiring in 1978. She was a 1929 graduate
of Shelbyville High School and a 1932 graduate of St. Vincent University. She
was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 15 from 4-8 p.m. at the Carmony-Ewing
Broadway Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be held Friday, July
16 at 10 a.m. at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Rev. Paul Landwerien
officiating. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Freudenstein
Florence C. Freudenstein, 61, of Hudson, FL, died July 9, 2004 at Regional Medical
Center Bayonet Point, FL. She was born in Columbus, OH, she moved to Florida
in 1982 from Carmel, IN. She owned and operated Able Insurance Company in Port
Richey, FL, and was a member of the Roman Catholic Faith.
She is survived by her husband, Roger Freudenstein of Hudson, FL, native of Versailles,
daughter, Vicky Black of Port Richey, FL, her father Vincent V. Pavicic of Miami,
FL, two sisters, Gloria Taylor and Linda Castro, both of Miami, FL.
A gathering of friends will take place Sunday, July 18 from 6-8 p.m. at the Bell
Funeral Home, 7532 State Road 52, Hudson, FL. A memorial mass will be celebrated
on Monday, July 19 at 10 a.m. in St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church,
Hudson, FL. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
Johnnie Carroll "John" Fields
Johnnie Carroll Fields, 56, of Aurora, formerly of Vevay, died Monday, July 12,
2004 at his residence. He was born November 28, 1947 in Madison the son of
Cegal Fields and Evelyn (Mays) Fields. He married Leta Karen (Harmon) Fields
on March 14, 1974 and she survives.
Other survivors include one daughter, Rebecca Stewart of Madison, one son, Johnnie
Oliver of Madison, two grandchildren, one brother, Jerry Fields of Madison, one
sister, Judy Leas of Madison and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and first wife Jerry Dale Oliver Fields.
Mr. Fields was a self-employed maintenance person and served in the United States
Navy.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 16 from 9 a.m. until the time of services
at 11 a.m. at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, Vevay. Funeral services
will follow visitation at 11 a.m. with Rev. Ronald Sandidge officiating. Burial
will be in the Pleasant Cemetery, Vevay.

Ruth Ann Lothridge
Ruth Ann Lothridge, 58, of Versailles, died Monday, July 12, 2004 at King's Daughters'
Hospital, Madison. She was born December 8, 1945 in Versailles the daughter
of Charles Grace, Sr. and Goldie Bowman Grace. She married Larry T. Lothridge
and he survives.
Other survivors include four sons, Terry Ford and wife Angela of Covington, KY,
Scott Ford and wife Marlene of Osceola, Chris Lothridge and wife Sherry of Osgood,
Delbert Lothridge of Versailles, two daughters, Amy Kipler and husband Bo of
Dillsboro, Charity Jones and husband Andrew of Versailles, 14 grandchildren,
nieces and nephews and friends and her father, Charles Grace Sr. of Rising Sun.
She was preceded in death by her mother and brother Charles Grace, Jr.
Mrs. Lothridge was a homemaker.

William Byrum
William Byrum, 28, of Moores Hill, died Saturday, July 3, 2004 at his residence.
He was born October 4, 1975 in Cincinnati, Ohio the son of Clarence S. and
Joyce Marie (Metzger) Byrum and they survive in Moores Hill. He married Amanda
(Johnson) Byrum and she also survives in Moores Hill.
Other survivors include one son, Dylan Byrum at home, one daughter, Taylor Byrum
at home, three brothers, Scott Byrum of Lawrenceburg, Aaron Byrum of Moores Hill,
Anthony Byrum of Moores Hill, one sister, Shawna Stanley of Moores Hill, paternal
grandparents, Clarence and Rosa Byrum of Cincinnati, OH and several nieces and
nephews.
Mr. Byrum was a union carpenter for Adams Cooling Towers of Moores Hill. He was
also a member of the Carpenters Union #126.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 7 at Sibbett-Moore Funeral Home in
Moores Hill with Rev. Paul Metzger officiating.

Mary Edna Akers
Mary Edna Akers, 54, of Dillsboro died Monday, July 5, 2004 at her residence.
She was born October 24, 1949 in Batesville the daughter of John McIntosh and
Hester Jean Elam. She married Hershel Akers and he survives.
Other survivors include her mother, Hester Jean Campbell of Batesville, stepmother,
Elizabeth McIntosh of Lorain, OH, one daughter, Carla Helton of Aurora, one son,
Robert Gordon Akers of Dillsboro, four grandchildren, two sisters, Bobbie Coleman
of Elyria, OH, and Della Brown of Lorain, OH, three brothers, Honolulu McIntosh
of Wolf, W. VA, James Roland McIntosh and John Dwayne McIntosh both of Ypsilanti,
MI. She was preceded in death by her father, John McIntosh and stepfather, Dara
Phillips.
Mrs. Akers was a homemaker and a retired employee of Batesville Casket Company.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 8 from 4-8 p.m. slow time at Cook Funeral
Home, Sunman. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 9 at 11 a.m. at the
funeral home with Rev. Tom Holt officiating. Burial will be in the St. Paul Cemetery

Minerva E. "Ruth" Vaughn
Minerva E. "Ruth" Vaughn, 82, of Osgood and formerly of Connersville,
died Monday, July 5, 2004 at Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. She was
born October 22, 1921 in Clay County, Kentucky the daughter of John Isaac and
Margaret Ellen Durham Hall.
Survivors include one son, Arke and wife Dina Vaughn of Butlerville, one daughter,
Dianna Vaughn of Eaton, OH, two sisters, Marilyn Collins and Peggy Lowe both
of Connersville, eight grandchildren, 13 great great grandchildren, six nieces
and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jesse C.
Vaughn on June 9, 1991, an infant son, two daughters, Mary Ellen Vaughn and Joyce
Clontz, one sister Naomi Hall, four brothers, Floyd, Carlos, Billy and Freddie
Hall, a granddaughter and her special companion, Thomas Barber.
Mrs. Vaughn attended Harrisburg school. She had been employed at the Fayette
County Senior Center, Miller's Drive-In in Rushville, Hooks Drugs in Richmond
and Connersville Casket Company and American Kitchens both in Connersville.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 8 from 6-8 p.m. at the Showalter Blackwell
Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 9
at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Willie Russell officiating. Interment
will follow in Earlham Cemetery in Richmond at 1:30 p.m.

Ralph Lloyd Thompson
Ralph Lloyd Thompson, 88, of Memphis, died July 7, 2004 at Baptist Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife Laura Thompson, daughters, Carol Kaiser
of Dunwoody, GA, Sue Datson of Centennial, CO, son, William Thompson of Ft. Collins,
CO, sisters, Kathleen Stehle of Dallas, Lila Finke of Gainesville, GA, Jane Wilson
of Ashburn, VA, six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, a mason and member of
the Scottish Rite, a graduate of Indiana University where he was a member of
Sigma Chi and was a WWII marine veteran. He was a manufacturer representative
for Helman Furniture.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 10 at the Memphis Funeral Home with
burial in the Memorial Park. Memorials may be sent to the First United Methodist
Church in Aurora or Tyson Temple in Versailles.
Ray L. Orman
Ray L. Orman, 64, of Versailles, passed away Sunday, July 4, 2004 at his residence.
He was born at Clay City, Indiana on January 21, 1940 the son of Martin and
Mary Staley Orman. He was married to Margaret Ruch on June 20, 1962 and she
survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Charlotte Lyn Hart and companion Jody
Hensley of Versailles, Greta Rae Glotzbach and husband Kelly of Mitchell, grandchildren,
Matthew and Emily Prarat, Rachel Hensley, Skye, Zane and Preston Glotzbach, one
brother, Mark Orman of Clay City, one sister, Linda Lowe and husband Larry of
Clay City.
Mr. Orman was a 1958 graduate of Clay City High School. He received his bachelor's
degree from Purdue University in 1962 in agriculture economics and his master's
degree from Purdue in 1966 in agriculture education. He was general manager of
the Ripley County Farm Bureau from 1971 to 1996 and worked for Purdue University
as a county extension director and educator in Clay and Franklin counties. Mr.
Orman was also a sponsor for the Hassmer Hilltoppers 4-H Club in Versailles,
a member of the Versailles Lions Club since 1972, a member of the Clay City Church
of Christ and had formerly served on the Ripley County Fair Board and the South
Ripley School Board. He also bred and raised Shorthorn cattle and was a member
of the Indiana American Shorthorn Associations.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 7 at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral
Home in Versailles.

Theresa O. Forthofer
Theresa O. Forthofer, 80 of Batesville, formerly of Sunman, died Tuesday, July
6, 2004 at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. She was born June 18, 1924 in Morris
the daughter of Thomas and Rose Schneider Merkel, both deceased. She married
Paul "Steve" Forthofer on June 4, 1947 in St. Anthony Church, Morris
and he preceded her in death on February 13, 2004.
Survivors include two daughters, Sr. Evelyn Forthofer of Sisters of St. Francis,
Oldenburg, Annette and husband David Wilhelm of Cedar Grove, four sons, Howard
and wife Pam Forthofer of Danville, VA, Russ and wife Joan Forthofer of Fishers,
John and wife Beth Forthofer of Shelbyville, Chris and wife Tammy Forthofer of
Oldenburg, Andy and wife Romona Forthofer of Peru, 18 grandchildren, five great
grandchildren, daughter-in-law Mariana Forthofer of Greenwood and a very special
friend Sister Carmen deBarros of Oldenburg.
She was preceded in death by one son, Melvin Forthofer and one brother, Sylvester
Merkel.
Mrs. Forthofer was a homemaker and an active member of the St. Nicholas Catholic
Church, St. Nicholas.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 9 from 4-8 p.m. slow time at Cook Funeral
Home, Sunman with rosary services at 4 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday,
July 10 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Nicholas Church with Rev. John Nestor officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Nicholas Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Scholarship Fund for Sr. Carmen deBarros at Sisters
of St. Francis in Oldenburg, St. Nicholas School or given to the masses.
Virginia Mehlon
Virginia Mehlon, 78, of Batesville, died Monday, July 5, 2004 at her residence.
She was born October 23, 1925 at St. Nicholas the daughter of Frank Lamppert
and Martha Riehle Lamppert, both deceased. She married George A. Mehlon on
October 1, 1949 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Sunman and he preceded her
in death on December 19, 1985.
Survivors include one daughter, Melissa Musleh of Carmel, four sons, George
F.
Mehlon of Batesville, Randall Mehlon of Baton Rouge, LA, Michael "Mick" Mehlon
of Oldenburg, Gerald Mehlon of Batesville, three brothers, Bob Lamppert of Morris,
Alvin Lamppert of Oldenburg, Joe Lamppert of St. Nicholas, twelve grandchildren
and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Gerald Mehlon.
Mrs. Mehlon owned Band Box Cleaners in Batesville with her husband before retiring
in 1985. She was also a member of St. Louis Church and its Ladies Society.
Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, July 8, 10 a.m. (slow time) at
St. Louis Catholic Church in Batesville with Rev. Daniel Mahan officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may go to the J. Michael Hansen
Oncology Center. Weigel Funeral Home, Batesville, is in charge of the arrangements.

Denny" Bromwell
Dennis Ray "Denny" Bromwell, 45, of Bennington, died
Saturday, June 26, 2004 in Vevay. He was born September 18,
1958 in Valparaiso the son of Roy
Emmitt Bromwell and Mary Charlene (Chowning) Bromwell and they survive in Bennington.
Other survivors include his companion of 14 years, Sara A. Smith of Sunman, one
daughter, Melissa Johnson Rigas, two stepchildren, Tracy Smith of Versailles,
James Smith of East Enterprise, two step great-grandchildren, Steven Ray McKeoun
and Charles Smith, four sisters, Royena Marie Botkins and Unita Moore, both of
Bennington, Teresa Bromwell of Carrollton, KY, Brenda Bromwell of Jacksonville,
FL, one brother, Roy Delbert "Bud" Bromwell of Marion County, OH and
several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his
grandparents, William and Louise O'Connor Bromwell and Delbert and Cecile Sullivan
Chowning.
Mr. Bromwell was employed as a construction worker until he became disabled in
1990. He was raised in Chesterton and had resided in Switzerland County for the
past 14 years.
Visitation will be held today, Thursday, July 1, 5-7 p.m. (slow time) at Haskell & Morrison
Funeral Home in Vevay.
Funeral services and cremation will follow at 7 p.m. with Pastor Richard Hamilton
officiating.

Emeritus William Kraemer
Pastor Emeritus William Charles Kraemer, of Crown Point, died June 28, 2004 at
his home. He was born in Northwood, Iowa on August 11, 1931 to Pastor Edgar
and Laura (Fritchel) Kraemer. He married Frieda Bast and she survives.
Other survivors include four children, Pastor Timothy (Susan) Kraemer of Jasper,
Philip Kraemer of Linton, Naomi (Pastor Jim) Wetzel of Linton, and Andrew Kraemer
of Crown Point, four grandchildren, one brother, Dick and one sister Elizabeth
(Bill) Sump. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Paul and daughter,
Naomi.
Pastor Kraemer and his wife served congregations in Indiana, Iowa and Illinois.
Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, July 1 at 10 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran
Church, Crown Point with Pastor Vance, Chaplain Ungrote, Pastor Kipp and Pastor
Press officiating. Committal services will be at St. John Lutheran, Sumner, Iowa
on July 3.
All memorials may be made to their favorite foreign mission.

Herschel Adams
Herschel Adams, 65, of Versailles, formerly of Osgood, passed away Monday, June
28, 2004 at the Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. He was born
in London, Kentucky on November 26, 1938 the son of Bev and Sally Powers Adams.
He was married to Teresa Jane Kemker and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Kevin Adams and his wife Gina of Cocord, North
Carolina, and Alan Adams of Florida; one daughter, Phyllis Holman of Versailles;
seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren; two brothers, Ray Adams of
Versailles and Ben Adams of Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents,
six brothers, John, Alvin, Jim, Earl, Alfred, and Chester Adams and three sisters,
Gretha Webb, Dorothy and Flora Adams.
Mr. Adams was a 1958 graduate of New Marion High School and had been employed
with Church Brothers Body Shop in Indianapolis for 32 years. He also owned and
operated Adams Seal Coating and had done substitute teaching at South Ripley
High School. He was a member of the Suburban Baptist Church in Greenwood and
attended the Dabney Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, July 1 at 10 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter
Funeral Home, Versailles with Rev. Charles Cole of the Dabney Baptist Church
officiating. Burial will be in the Dabney Cemetery.

Michael Dan Wilhoit
Michael Dan Wilhoit, 43, of Hamilton, OH, formerly of Osgood, died Monday, June
28, 2004 at his residence. He was born March 22, 1961 in Decatur County Memorial
Hospital, Greensburg the son of Carl Richard Wilhoit and Marlene Mae Hughes.
Survivors include his parents, Marlene and Ted Hughes of Osgood; wife Freda Isom
Wilhoit of Hamilton, OH; son, Michael Wilhoit, Jr. of Versailles; four daughters,
Jennifer Wilhoit of Osgood, Marlana, Danielle, and Jessica Wilhoit all of Hamilton,
OH; three brothers, Greg Wilhoit of Indianapolis; Steve Wilhoit of Osgood, Jason
Hughes of Milan; one sister, July Ann Wilhoit of Los Angeles, CA and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Richard Wilhoit on July 17, 2001.
Mr. Wilhoit was a graduate of Jac-Cen-Del High School, an Army veteran and attended
the Buena Vista Pentecostal Church in Middletown, OH. He worked as a logistics
manager at Faxon Machining, Springdale, OH.
Visitation will be held today Thursday, July 1 from 4-8 p.m. at Neal's Funeral
Home, Osgood. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 2 at 10 a.m. at the
funeral home. Burial will be in the Greendale Cemetery in Osgood.
Memorials may be made to the Osgood Fire Department or to the donor's choice.
