All three local schools compete in ten team Jac-Cen-Del Invitational Cross Country Meet

This past Saturday all the local schools' cross country teams competed in the Jac-Cen-Del Invitational. Ten teams showed up to compete in the meet including Milan, Brownstown, JCD, Rising Sun, Southwestern-Hanover, Switzerland County, South Decatur, Shawe, South Ripley and Southwestern-Shelby.

In the boys' portion of the meet S'western-Hanover were the champs with 62 points followed by Rising Sun with 67, Milan with 83, JCD with 86, Switz. Co. with 94, South Ripley with 130, Brownstown with 176, S. Decatur with 192 and S'western-Shelby with 230.

Just like he's been doing all season Milan's Brandon Welti was the winner with a time of 16:44. JCD's Justin Eaton was third individually with a time of 17:34. SR's first runner to cross the finish line was Erik Demaree in 22nd place with a time
of 19:09.

Adam Baylor was the Indians' second runner placing 5th in a time of 17:43. Following Baylor was Nathan Hampton (8th 18:13), Josh Yatsko (31st 20:14), Mark Horstman (40th 21:20) and Daniel Fleming (46th 21:57).

JCD's second runner to finish was Kyle Horan in 10th running a time of 18:23 followed by Andrew Wagner (15th 18:35), Matt Hicks (27th 19:45), Grant Gilland (33rd 20:29), Austin Lord (36th 20:40) and Andrew Huff (45th 21:50).

Ariel Lawburgh was SR's number two runner placing 26th with a time of 19:40 followed by Michael Mathews (28th 19:54), Ryan Kohlmeier (37th 20:41), Cody Myers (41st 21:26), B.J. Sieverding (43rd 21:40) and Nick Grider (51st 22:38).

In the girls' portion of the meet S'western-Hanover were the team champs with 36 points followed by Brownstown with 46 points, Rising Sun with 83, JCD with 100, Switz. Co. with 104 and South Ripley with
210.

Rising Sun's Caitlin Sauerhage was the individual winner with a time of 15:32. JCD's Alisha Lord was 7th individually with a time of 17:28. Danielle Clemens was Milan's first runner to cross the finish line placing 20th in a time of 19:14. SR's number one runner was Amber Thompson in 40th place with a time of 25:34.

Amber Lunsford was JCD's second runner placing 17th in a time of 18:21. Following Lunsford for the Eagles was Kaitlyn Hughes (27th 19:19), Casey Gerwe (28th 20:23), Kelley Wagner (31st 20:45) and Laura Hicks (35th 21:38).

SR's girls took 40th through 44th place with Thompson leading the way. Behind her was Berni Gorman in a time of 26:16, Molly Walls (26:24), Amy Hobbs (29:47) and Sara McCreary (33:28).

Megan Lade was the Indians' second runner to finish taking 33rd in a time of 21:16. Following Lade was Sarah Mills in 37th running a time of 23:04.

Milan's Brandon Welti continued his unbeaten streak taking first place in both the East Central Invitational on Thursday and the Jac-Cen-Del Invitational on Saturday.

South Ripley holds annual Raider Open

South Ripley's basketball program held their annual 4-person golf scramble on Saturday, September 11 at North Branch Golf Course.

Seventy-two golfers showed up to make 18 teams competing in the scramble for the first place $500 prize. Throughout the course there were also other competitions going on such as the Longest Drive, Closest to Pin, Longest Putt and Closest to Pin for Reds Tickets.

All proceeds from the scramble will go towards South Ripley's boys' basketball program.
