South Ripley and Milan compete in four-way meet at Baylor Park in Milan

South Ripley and Milan's cross country teams competed in a four-way meet at Baylor Park on Thursday evening with Southwestern and Switzerland County running against the Indians and Raiders.

In the girls' portion of the meet Southwestern was the team champ with 20 points followed by Switzerland County with 43 and South Ripley with 80. Milan didn't have a full team competing.

SC's Amanda Hon was the individual winner with a time of 15:18, followed by seven Southwestern runners. Milan's Danielle Clemens finished ninth in a time of 18:20. SR's first runner to finish was Amber Thompson placing 20th
(14th) in a time of 22:47.

Sarah Mills was Milan's second runner to finish taking 14th place with a time of 20:06 followed by Megan Lade (15th 20:07) and Kim Batta (22nd 23:43).

South Ripley's girls finished 20th, 21st and 23rd-25th but due to Milan not having a full team and their runners not getting a score the Lady Raiders were awarded 14th-18th places. Bernadette Gorman was SR's number two runner in the meet placing 21st (15th) in a time of 23:06. Following Gorman was Molly Walls (16th 24:47), Amy Hobbs (24th 25:04) and Sarah McCrory (18th 31:19).

In the boys' portion of the meet Southwestern took the team crown with 40 points followed by Switz. Co. with 47, Milan with 52 and
South Ripley with 76.

Milan's Brandon Welti continued his winning streak taking first place with an outstanding time of 15:54. The Indians' Adam Baylor and Nathan Hampton took third and fourth. Baylor ran a 17:18 and Hampton ran a 17:27. South Ripley's leading runner was Erik Demaree placing 12th in a time of 18:25.

Following Hampton for the Indians was Josh Yatsko placing 20th in 19:56, Mark Horstman (21st 19:59), Daniel Fleming (24th 20:25) and Matt Lewis (27th 24:48).

Ariel Lawburgh was South Ripley's second runner placing 13th in a time of 18:55. Following Lawburgh was Michael Mathews (16th 19:13), Ryan Kohlmeier (17th 19:28), B.J. Sieverding (18th 19:35) and Nick Grider (22nd 20:04).

Indians snap four-game losing streak with win over North Decatur

Milan's football team snapped a four-game winning streak with a win over North Decatur Friday night at home. The Indians defeated the Chargers 21-13 on their homecoming night.

The Indians jumped on the board early scoring on their first drive with a pass from QB Rusty Ison to receiver Matt Posten to take a 7-0 lead. Milan's defense was able to hold North Decatur scoreless through the first quarter.

North Decatur opened up the second quarter scoring on their play on a two-yard run by their running back. Milan responded scoring later in the quarter when Schafer and Posten connected on a shot lob pass to the back corner of the end zone. At halftime the Indians were leading the Chargers 14-7.
Neither team scored in the third quarter but Milan was able to add seven more in the fourth when Bob Stanley broke off for a 46 yard run to reach the end zone. North Decatur scored 6 more in the fourth quarter to make the final score 21-13 snapping the Indians' losing streak.

On offense the Indians compiled 285 total yards, 97 rushing and 188 passing, with 7 total first downs. They had 70 yards on 8 Charger penalties. Ben Schafer had 128 yards on 8 for 19 passing with one touchdown and one interception. Rusty Ison threw one for one with 60 yards and a touchdown.

Matt Posten was the leading receiver with 105 yards on 3 catches with 2 touchdowns and a long of 60 yards. Andy McIntosh had 4 catches for 37 yards, Nick Arthur had one catch for 25 yards and Josh Schwanholt had one catch for 7 yards.
Bob Stanley led the Indians in rushing with 52 yards on 5 carries with a touchdown and a long of 46. Nick Arthur had 29 yards on 11 carries, Matt Posten had 13 yards on 3 carries and Ben Schafer had 3 yards on 4 carries.

On defense the Indians allowed 224 total yards to the Chargers, 160 rushing and 64 passing and 10 first downs. Milan was called for 7 penalties giving North Decatur 50 yards.

Bob Stanley led the team with 8 solo tackles (one for a loss) followed by Jeremy Whiteford with 5 and Ben Schafer, Derek Pennington and Brad McKeown with 4 apiece. Pennington led the team with 2 sacks followed by Josh Smith with one.

The Indians' next game is this Friday on the road against Indian Creek. That game is scheduled to start at 7:00 pm.
