Crash occurs on US 50
Van and semi collide killing Holton man

Richard E. Perkinson, 43, of Holton, lost his life in an accident Monday evening, September 20, about 6:18 p.m. on US 50 in Holton.

According to information from Sgt. Randy Holt of the Ripley County Sheriff's Department, Perkinson was a passenger in a GMC mini van that was being driven by Kayla S. Perkinson, 36, also of Holton.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the van was westbound on US 50 when she turned in front of a semi truck and trailer that was traveling eastbound on US 50 near Versailles Street in Holton.

The driver of the semi rig, Casey Bright, 28, of North Vernon, was not injured in the incident.

Kayla Perkinson suffered internal injuries according to reports from police and was transported by Rescue 69 to Margaret Mary Commu
nity Hospital in Batesville.

Richard Perkinson was air lifted from the scene by Stat Flight to King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison where he died from massive internal injuries.

The accident is still under investigation by the Ripley County Sheriff's Department, who was assisted at the scene by Holton Town Marshal Billey Moore, Rescue 69, and members of the Holton Fire Department.
