No burning in the town of Holton
Wanda English Burnett - Editor

The Holton Town Board met in regular session October 5, at 6:00 p.m. at the community center on Versailles Street. Due to the dry weather in the month of September, it was noted that the "no-burn" ordinance will be fully enforced in the town's limits. "There is to be no burning of any sort, not even in barrels," noted President Robert Furst. This will be strictly enforced throughout the fall months.

Those in attendance heard that the budget had been cut by $2,800 for the upcoming year. Clerk-Treasurer Velma Stickelman reported that the town had asked for $79,900 and received approval for $77,100.

President Robert Furst noted that people with damaged buildings from the tornado had all received letters stating they have until July 30, 2005 to get them cleaned up.

The problem of junk cars was revisited with members giving the number around 50 of those in violation. Several residences were named and Attorney Larry Eaton will be sending out letters to those individuals.

In other business:

・ Raises on the sewer bills were discussed and will be implemented as soon as they are processed.
・ Leaf collection is now in progress with leaves being picked up on Tuesdays.

・ Steve Troxell, town worker, reported that all the equipment has been winterized.

・ It was noted that additional weed eaters will be purchased.

・ Sunday, October 24, will be the last day the town park will be open for the season.

・ A new grinder pump has been
installed on North Marion Street.

・ A street sign on Sleepy Road will be replaced.

Town Marshal Billey Moore reported he has received a cage for his car on loan from the sheriff's department. He noted that he had a busy month and made an arrest for operating while intoxicated and worked a domestic violence case along with his other duties. He was commended from the council. He also requested a copy of all the local ordinances to have on file in the police department for quick reference.

Discussion was held on having a meal site at the new community center. It was noted that the center would have to have 25 committed people to eat on a regular basis at the center for LifeTime to make it an official SNAC site. This issue was tabled.

Trick or Treat night has been set for Friday, October 29, from 5-7 p.m.
