Milan's football season
came to an abrupt stop last Friday
night in the second round of the
sectional tournament at Manual High
School in Indianapolis. The Indians
fell to last year's 1A state champions
the Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter
Raiders by a score of 62-0.
Ritter jumped out to an early 21-0
lead in the first quarter and never
slowed down. They added 14 more in
the second, 14 in the third and 13
in the fourth to give them 62.
The Indians were held to just 7
first downs in the contest on 104
yards, 33 passing and 71 rushing.
They had 35 yards on 3 Ritter penalties.
Matt Posten compiled most of the
Indians' yards carrying the ball
17 times for 69 yards. Anthony Spauld
ing had 8 yards on 4 carries and Bob Stanley carried the ball 4 times for 3
yards.
Quarterback Rusty Ison completed
5 out of 12 passes for 33 yards with
one interception. Andy McIntosh had
19 receiving yards on two catches.
Nick Arthur had 8 yards on one catch
and Ben Schafer had 6 yards on one
catch.
On defense the Indians gave up a
season high 504 yards, 107 passing
and 397 rushing. They allowed 15
first downs and were called for 4
penalties for 20 yards.
Ben Schafer led with 6 solo tackles
followed by Josh Schwanholt with
5 and Andy McIntosh with 4. Derek
Pennington finished with 2 tackles
with the Indians' only sack.
The Indians finished their season
with a record of 5-6 overall. The
team will be honored on Wednesday,
November 17 at the Milan High School. |
