Eagles continue unbeaten season with win over defending State Champions Waldron

Jac-Cen-Del's boys' varsity basketball team picked up their ninth straight victory with a lopsided 92-50 victory over last year's 1A state champions the Waldron Mohawks. With the victory the Eagles keep their perfect season alive at 9-0.

JCD jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter pushing their advantage to 16 and taking over the game when they scored 28 points. The Eagles' defense held Waldron to just 12 points in the quarter.

The second quarter was the same story as the Eagles put the game out of reach adding 27 to their total. Waldron's 10 points in the quarter gave JCD a 33 point lead going into halftime.

Adam Peetz led the Eagles with 14 first half points followed by Tyler Einhaus with 10.

In the third quarter the Eagles' offense slowed down a little bit as they added 18 more points, five more than Waldron's 13. Going into the final quarter JCD was in complete control of the game sitting on a 38 point cushion.

The Eagles added 19 more in the fourth quarter to the Mohawks 15 to make the final score 92-50.

Tyler Einhaus led all scorers with 23 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double grabbing 9 in the contest. He also led the Eagles with 5 assists and 3 steals. Adam Peetz finished the game with a double-double scoring 18 points and grabbing a team
high 10 rebounds. Two other Eagles finished in double-digit scoring with Chip Schuler scoring 11 and Andrew Huntington adding 10.

The Eagles will look to remain unbeaten as they travel to conference opponent Shawe this Friday night. That game is scheduled to start at 6:00 pm with the JV playing first.

Raiders fall to 4A Jennings County then lose in overtime to North Decatur on the road

South Ripley's basketball team dropped two straight decisions this weekend on the road. The Raiders fell to the 4A Jennings County Panthers on Friday by a score of 67-57 then fell to the North Decatur Chargers on Saturday in overtime 48-40.

In the first game the Raiders trailed the whole game but were able to keep it close. In the first quarter they were outscored 19-12. Three Raiders scored in the first quarter with Tyler Ester connecting on two three's to lead the way with 6.

The Raiders kept the score close in the second quarter scoring 18, but they were outscored by one when the Panthers dropped 19. Going into halftime the Raiders were trailing 38-30.

Michael Fear led South Ripley with 13 first half points followed by Ester's nine.

South Ripley cut the lead to just four points in the third quarter by outscoring Jennings County 16-12. Going into the fourth quarter the Panthers were leading 50-46.

In the fourth quarter the Raiders
barely scored double-digits adding just 11 points to their total. Jennings County, on the other hand, added 17 to theirs to grab the 10 point victory.

Only five Raiders scored in the contest with Fear leading the way with 20 followed by Ester with 15, Tony Lloyd with 10, Brandon Seabolt with 8 and Jacob Lemon with 4.

Lloyd finished the game with a double-double grabbing 11 rebounds to go with his 11 points. Brandon Seabolt finished the game with a team high 10 assists.

In their game against North Decatur the Raiders got off to a very slow start scoring just 4 points in the first quarter. The Chargers built a nine point lead when as they scored 13.

South Ripley battled back in the second quarter holding North Decatur to just 5 points as they added 12 to their total. Going into halftime the Raiders were behind by two points at 18-16.

The Raiders took over the lead in the third quarter holding the Chargers to under double-digit scoring again at 8 points, as they scored 12 to take a two-point lead going into the fourth quarter.

Neither team reached double-dig

its in the fourth quarter as the Raiders scored just 7 points and the Chargers scored 9 to tie the game up and force overtime.

In the overtime the Raiders' offense continued to struggle as they managed just 5 points. North Decatur added 13 in the extra quarter to walk away with the 8 point lead.

Just one Raider finished the contest scoring double-digits. Tony Lloyd led the team with his second straight double-double scoring 10 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Tyler Ester and Michael Fear both scored 9 points each. Jacob Lemon was second on the team in rebounds with 11.

South Ripley continues their season this Friday on the road at Milan. That game is scheduled to start at 6:00 pm with the JV playing first.
