Josh Barnett - Sports Editor

The three points the Lady Raiders' defense gave up in the first quarter of their game at South Dearborn pretty much set the tone as they cruised to a 15 point victory Tuesday night. Although South Ripley scored just 40 points in the game, their defense held the Lady Knights to just 25. The win marks SR's sixth straight victory and pushes their record to 13-2 on the season.

In the first quarter just two Raiders scored, but it was good enough to give them a 9 point lead after they outscored the Knight 12-3. Erin Collier scored 8 of the 12, which included a last second three-pointer to push the Raiders ahead by 9, and Julie Lipperd scored the other four.

South Dearborn more than doubled their first quarter performance in the second scoring 8 points, but the deficit stayed at nine as the Raiders matched the 8 points. Going into halftime South Ripley was leading 20-11.

Collier scored 10 points in the first half and Lipperd had 8. Ciara
McGuire scored the teams other two points.

Neither team scored a lot again in the third quarter, but South Ripley still managed to add a couple points to their lead as they outscored the Lady Knights 8-6. Going into the fourth quarter the Raiders were sitting on an 11 point lead.

South Ripley's defense held South Dearborn to under double-digit scoring four the fourth straight quarter as they held them to just 8 points. The Raiders added 12 to their total to grab the 15 point victory.

Lipperd led South Ripley finishing just one rebound shy of a double-double with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Collier was the second leading scorer and the only other Raider to finish in double-digit scoring with 10. She also had a team high 8 assists. Ciara McGuire scored 6 points and Ashley Thomas chipped in 4.

The Lady Raiders are hosting Brownstown tonight (Thurs.) with hopes of grabbing their seventh straight win. That game is scheduled to start at 6:00 pm with the JV playing first.
